Windows 7 upgrading to Windows 10 ounce it releases.
Windows 7 on the desktop, XP on the old laptop. (Both PCs have Kubuntu too).
On my mom's desktop (my old one) XP gave problems with the Wi-Fi USB key, so I upgraded her to Kubuntu only, she didn't notice the difference, except that now she can browse better, without the connection always falling.

The main reason I like Ubuntu is because it receives the best support in softwares. Most apps will have a DEB package or are in its repositories. It's easier to get develper tools on it, which is a number one priority for me. In general, it's well balanced if you aren't willing to fuss with things. I'm wanting to try Arch for quite some time. I love rolling release distros since my time with Aptosid. I tried Fedora, but I found it quite unstable and more like a beta for Red Hat Enterprise. Mandriva was awesome, but it got discontinued. I used it on my desktop, that was the only machine without Ubuntu, but since them I ended up with it on all my PCs. |
I don't want any of these but then I know that Linux has the mentality to introduce stuff that is not Unix. I never had a problem with the init-system, still it will be gone soon. I never had a problem with Xorg, still many want to get rid of it.
I guess I would better go with BSD in the long run but then again "packages" there are also not the most current, leave aside hardware support.
Ubuntu is of course just famous now and the "go to"-distribution and I used Xubuntu a lot in the past and could live with it quite good.
Fedora was never my cup of tea. I don't like RPM and yum is just awful slow, while they at least have the delta-rpm-system.
Mandriva I never tried because it was french and they say "ordinateur" to computer which is just... Well, I didn't try it because it was french ;)
Own most of them but still using xp, windows 7 and 8, you would be surprised how many people are still running xp.
I like 7the best but I think 8 is not that bad, having used 10 I like it a lot but 7 is still better
old skool
Using Windows 8.1 right now and very satisfied with it. It's like W7 but faster.

Man, I would love if Debian (and derivates) really went serious about delta packages. Mandriva was a enjoyable distro and they had their nice control panel, but now unfortunately it's dead.

The thin just decides that it wants to restart my system. No asking the user, no warning whatsoever. Just restart, here, I'll close all your programs so you can't save anything. kthxbye! It really pisses me off. I know I can deactivate automatic updates, but I do want them. I just want to decide myself when to make a restart. You know, like it was with Windows 7? Or Windows XP? Or friggin' Windows 98 nearly 20 years ago?! |
I'm guessing you're using it on a tablet?
Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Windows 7 and I am happy with! After Windows XP and Windows Vista the best Windows system!
I have 8.1 on my HTPC, Laptop, Tablet and Wifes computer... After 10 comes out everything but the HTPC will get windows 10. I am keeping 8.1 on the HTPC because I actually like the metro interface on my HDTV.
