That's not really feasible though. They know how many they've shipped. It's their job to ship them so they can't possibly not know. They can't know how many have been sold to consumers though. To get that information they'd need stores to constantly update them which just isn't really possible. They can make estimates sure, but why use estimates that could be quite a bit off when you can give shipment numbers which you know are 100% accurate?

They would know if there were consoles not selling in stores and in different countries. They track shipped to, overstock and sold to. It's the only way to make adjustments to shipping output to different locations. You can't ship a fixed amount of merchandise to everywhere without adjusting it otherwise certain locations would end up with lots of overstock. Just shipped to numbers is not accurate at all. They could have a lot of overstock in certain markets where they thought they would of done better.

It doesn't work exactly like that though. Microsoft don't just ship a load of consoles to retailers and say 'sell them'. The retailers track their own stock and order more in when they need them, they don't need to tell Microsoft how much they have sold all the time and even if they did it would only be when they are ordering more stock anyway.

Hmm. I doubt that is the case when they ship to different countries. I'm gonna have to look into it though. There could be a ton of OS sitting in china. I still think that MS tracks those numbers but doesn't disclose them.

The seventh gen consoles are still pulling insane legs.

So MS just released figures and they shipped 6.6m Xbox consoles during the holiday Q.

My estimates (though they are irrelavant to overal Xbox console sales if you notice the title) are that 4.5m are XB1 and 2.1m are 360. This puts 360 at around 86.9m and XB1 around 11.9m.

However you spin the ratios, it's a fact that combined they're at 98.8 million shipped.

We have 95.5m sold, that leaves 3.3m on shelves which is a lot for dying 360 and XB1.

FYI, I don't think XB1 is undertracked, just 360, heavily. (like 1.5m~)

yeps.  undeniable.

360 still in 2nd, never left 2nd and will remain 2nd.  PS3 is dying much quicker.

fact.

Is this another one of those "internationally in the US" things?

Xbox 360 is undeniably undertracked here, but you base PS3 is behind and dying much quicker based on....???

I want the receipts to consider it a FACT, please.

the xbox 360 is a year older.... compare last year with ps3 this year... its a fact.  Im surprised you even asked.

So its ok to align launches to favor the 360 this year but its not ok to align launches to show the PS3 has actually been in front almost since launch..... Yeah ok buddy ya might wanna take those green tinted glasses off.

So the 360 is ahead again? lol.

Anyway go MS. Now put some of those monies into some decent Games with Gold.

Yes, for sure the Xbox a console that moves few units, has been for many years under tracking now and pretty much is easy to track is 1.5 million undertracked. I'm also pretty sure the wii and the ps3 are heavily overtracked.

You'd think people would've moved on by now.

Going with the radios XB1 is still 100-300k undertaked and 360 was number 1 last gen if you look at hardware and software sales.

Can you explain what you're saying here? I'm a tad confused. I think you're trying to imply that the 360 won the 7th gen overall when considering both hardware and software, but i assume i have that wrong because that would be an incredibly odd conclusion (given we have no solid relative between the two).
