Yes. If we could go back before Other M was created then that would be a good thing.

The Metroid Manga definitely has a very good backstory! Honestly, i've also thought about this topic many times as well. It would be great seeing a Metroid game with a full-fledged backstory. I'd be interested to see what Nintendo does with a deeper, more complex story. So much potential in the Metroid universe!

I'm on board. MP3 is my favorite Metroid game partly because it's the most story and narrative driven (not counting that one game), and the one that actually makes Samus feel like a person who is part of a greater universe, instead of a mindless robot tasked with a mission. It did this and still allowed me to imagine Samus the way I would like to envision her (unlike that one game), while showing that she's not to only other form of intelligent life out there on the side of good. I want more Metroid games like this, instead of the ones that just give you a bit of scrolling text at the beginning before dropping you off so you can spend the entire adventure stumbling around and killing things by your lonesome.

The absolute last thing we need is another Metroid made to tell a story.

....No. We have enough of Samus' backstory known, we do not need to live it, that was never the point. Plus, this is the problem with trying to do something like that: it can never live up to expectations. It's why we never got the 1999 Castlevania title concerning Dracula's ultimate defeat; the bar was set so damn high the game would never reach it. Seriously, it amazes me at how people obsess over things that are better left unexplored, especially since the future of the timeline is far more important.

As long as they don't pull a Prometheus with the Alien franchise. I'm all for a prequel.

But Fusion/MP3 were amazing! :/

Metroid's universe/plot has untapped potential. An origins story, the implications that the ending of Metroid Fusion left... I'd love to see a more story-driven Metroid done right

Prime 2 and 3 were able to pull it off.

i completely disagree.  I loved both those games to death, but the story telling mechanisms were atrocious.  You really had to dig around text logs and crap to really get the story and thats just lame.  It's cool to do that with little details, but a story should be laid out and told well.  I'll give 3 some props for at least having SOME cutscenes though.  Metroid has always been a game where i have kind of a lack of purpose.  Almost a situational feeling like most horror movies.  With all the lore and whatnot they can really do a kick@ss job with the potential metroid has.  I've always really appreciated the effort that was put into otherM, eve if it was a misfire.  They really just need to find a happy medium.  And like op said b4, if they could bring some of that manga to life in the game world, that would be awesome too.

I disagree. They were the most mediocre of the "good" Metroid games.

Metroid needs a game that's after Fusion
