It was the commercial failure of this reboot (thanks to YOU guys. I bought it!) that prompted the change in direction.

Personally, I liked the way the series went. Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica were painful to play through (and the story for RE games were nEVER good). The series needed change. Go play the DLC for RE 5 to see how an updated RE1 would play. It was good but nowhere near as good as people pretend it would be. Those nostalgia goggles...

Oh, but the problem was the Gamecube, no one had a Gamecube =/

Resident Evil was bad because Capcom forced it to be. When they saw the sales of Resident Evil was not like the sales of other games, they tried changing to be similar to other games. I mean, look at Resident Evil 6! It has a freaking soundtrack straight from a Cristopher Nolan movie!

I know it is impossible to make a game like RE today, no one would play it, they have to make a shooter and call it RE.

I know things are like they are and I am kicking a dead horse, it just depresses me to no end.

It depresses me too. Resident Evil is my favourite non JRPG franchise.

Do you recomend? FF 13-2 was so bad it took away all my faith from Square. FF 13 was ok...

That depends. Resident Evil was certainly an action/adventure game, where the survival aspect came in form of a small old key taking the same amount of space as a Flamethrower. The only thing I miss from earlier Resident Evil was the fact that everything took place on the same map (something like a Metroidvania map) instead of a map that always pushes you forward. Other than that, I loved the original Resident Evil as much as I love Resident Evil 5 and 6.

It was much better than that game in my opinion. It's a good game, and I recommend it because it doesn't suffer from trying to be an anime and failing. You should ask more people if you should buy it though.

Im happy someone else sees 4 for what it is.

Exactly. RE4 is a good game, but it's a different IP. RE1-CV is true RE imo.

RE1 is a relic of its age. A game with tank controls and shoddy camera in this era would get heavily criticized. RE1 only gets the pass because of its franchise's legacy. Things would be drastically different if it were a new IP.

Yes, OP is correct. I just bought RE HD and put it away after 30 minutes. I just couldn't take the old fashioned and slow gameplay, lack of checkpoints and a tiny inventory. It is just dull and boring.
Resident Evil 4 paved the way to a modern RE game, RE5 was by far the best in the series, and also introduced coop which is a huge plus in my book. Revelations was good as well, and I'm looking forward to Revelations 2.
I will most likely never return to continue RE HD, as I don't want to battle fixed camera angles and the inability to pick up health if I need it.
