I enjoyed RE5 and RE6 for what they were. I wish we could reverse time and see the franchise continue to grow but stick to its horror roots. It's harder and harder to scare people but games like PT, which was genuinely scary and unnerving, give me hope.

It will be interesting to see how the new Silent Hill turns out. Part of what made P.T. so damn creepy was the lack of context. There was no narrative, no central characters, no pre-stated goal, nothing. Even the gameplay was very bare-boned. It will be difficult for them to maintain P.T.'s level of horror while also trying to deliver on all those traditional fronts.

You make an excellent. The fact that we knew nothing about it, that there was no handing holding and people just stumbled their way thru it made it all the more chilling. We might have a situation where the demo/teaser/etc is better than the final product.

Right. Why would anyone think it was. It wasn't until RE4 (which I always personally felt was dogshit, just like the games that followed it), where they changed the RE series, not only in gameplay style, moving away from ACTUAL "survival horror" gameplay to just straight up action/shooter gameplay, but also thematically, as the RE, to me at least, seemed to have a whole different thing going on, and then with 4 onward they tried to adapt it somewhat to fit the shitty movies.

Either way, that series has been dead to me since Code Veronica, which was a decent game. The GC remake was pretty solid though.

RE4 is a great game and RE5 and RE6 were good. Why people are obsessed with wanting games to be like they were earlier in their life's is beyond me.

People don't like change, even when it's for the better.

RE5 and 6 are pretty bad, nothing wrong with changes, but there´s a problem when you kill the whole meaning of the series as happen on 5 and 6, where there´s no "Survival" and there´s no "Horror", there´s just pew pew pew, CGI, pew pew pew, CGI ... No atmosphere, no good story, no terror, no puzzle, no Resident Evil.

yea, that is right and I loved the old REs, but to be honest I think long mystery/horror game franchises don't really work - after the first few entries there just is no real mystery left, so all that's left to do in the franchise is confront the baddies and shoot them in the head

But it was a change of genre really, from Adventure to Third Person Shooter.

It is like to release Tetris 5  and it becomes a Lobster cooking simulator.

I am loving the Resident Evil Remaster. At first I assumed it was just going to be a upscaled port of the GCN game and whilst it is, they have done a really good job at it and for some reason the gameplay is still very very enjoyable. I like that I can only carry 6 items as Chris(8 as Jill) and I like that I have to constantly refill the gas container so I can burn the bodies of the zombies or else they come back even faster and fiercer. I like that I have to conserve ammunition and I like that I enter a room and may or may not have zombie-dogs coming at me. Even the progressive unlocking of the mansion feels rewarding and finding a safe room is a huge comfort. I miss all those elements.

Resident evil became more Acton oriented with part two and never looked back.
