It could but probably won't. It looks like an excellent game, it's a fresh IP, it's a shooter and people really liked it post-e3. Splatoon could have appeal to those wanting a new experience, to those who like shooters, and especially to kids and parents who like the characters and non-violent approach to a shooter.

But it would need a significant marketing push to get the word out, and people really aren't fond of the Wii U, so it's not likely that it will have a major impact.

I do think Wii U will have a solid year though, with this and other titles plus a price cut making this most likely the system's best year to date.

I agree with this. It's only appealing to a very niche group as is and the only people that know about the game are the Nintendo fans that watch directs. I have a feeling this game game will go down a lot like The Wonderful 101 did.

No, you guys always say the same, Captain Toad is gonna be a fail , Hyrule Warriors is not even going to reach 0.5m and now Splatoon is niche and all the hype is only an illusion that only exist on this single forum. No, there´s actually hype around the game, you can see it on internet, and you will see it climbing  on the pre-order charts in few months, the less you believe it, the more you´ll be surprised.

(So you think is going to sell like w101?... 300k on 2 years... really??)

Captain Toad is a recognizable Nintendo character and the game was sold for $40 during the holiday season. Hyrule Warriors had a Zelda theme which made it more popular in the West. And hype on the internet? If the internet and gaming forums are to be believed then Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and other big yearly releases should be commercial flops and games like Bayonetta 2 should sell in droves, yet that isn't remotely true. The average consumer has a much different mindset than gamers on the internet.

Do you remeber Animal Crossing? Do you remember how anybody thought that game could sell something? It was blamed to be so niche (like todomachi too).... and now... the same team is doing Splatoon.

I'm not saying it isn't possible that the game could become a big seller. But there's also an equal chance that it fails. It all depends on how Nintendo decides to handle the game up to and after its launch.

Maybe if Nintendo actually decides to market it well enough. Maybe get an ad on Cartoon Network or something to at least get the word out.

For me, probably, if they start selling the Wii U at $200.

I'm now filled with determination.

Yes, marketing will be the key, i hope Nintendo doesn´t lose this chance.

Captain Toad and Hyrule Warriors are not system sellers. Are they selling slightly better then what people orginally thought sure, but even than there sales aren't that impressive and they certiantly haven't pushed that many units. Those are 2 games that got meger advertisment, came out around the holidays and also have Nintendo's biggest franchise characters in them. I just don't see how people can think, Splatoon a new IP, with no known Nintendo characters in it will be a big system seller like Mario Kart 8 which some people are saying. I can see random people going into the store and picking up Hyrule Warriors or Captain Toad and making an impulse buy, I dont see that with Splatoon.

I'm not dening that there isn't hype for the game, there certiantly is, but it's only really online. Heck I'm intrested in the game it looks intresting and I'm happy Nintendo is taking the risk, but I just don't see it being a system seller at all. I related it to The Wonderful 101 becuase they were both new IP's, but I think it will sell between 300k-600k maybe if it has some nice legs 800K.

           Survivor Millennial vs Gen X!!

cool story bruh bruh

I actually thought this was a joke thread, Splatoon a system seller? What?

System seller as in selling a considerable amount of systems? Hellz nah

This game doesn't have mass appeal, hell I haven't even seen one people talk about this game outside of a forum. That doesn't mean it'll flop necessarily but I think a lot of people are hyping this game up sooo much only to be disappointed with it's performance later on. Keep yo expectations in check homies!

Panda is that you?

@bolded: That's a very hard task on gaming forums

Nah. It looks like one of those games that (while being very high in quality, much like Bayo 2) will only appease to the core userbase for the Wii U. Its not like its a long established IP like the Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart or SSB etc series that can actually push consoles sales.
