Honestly the term "system seller" should be reserved for a small handful of IP.

Splatoon is not at that level, not unless it legs its way to 1.5 million LTD in Japan or something.

It's a great game though and I'm glad to see it's selling fairly well in Japan. Splatoon 2 is pretty much assured on NX I would guess.

I actually agree with you on this one. While Splatoon will no doubt boost system sales, established IP are really the reason people buy a console. For instance, many people would buy an Xbox One knowing Halo will eventually be released. Therefore, Halo is a system seller. Maybe we should distinguish between a system seller and a system booster or something like that? I don't know...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Damn I forgot to account for only being released for 3 days, my estimate was a full week, sorry. Full week I'm probably over by 2-4 thousand, not bad

Almost every single game ever released in any region is released at the end of the week, usually thursday or even friday. This is a discussion that comes up every now and the, thought that you should know (partly assumed that you already knew, to be honest).

With highly anticipated titles, pre-orders make up the brunt of sales anyway, so a few days won't make a huge difference in most cases anyway.

I picked up Splatoon for my podcast to review last week. I was apprehensive when i purchased it. Yet, i am pleasantly surprised at how great this game is. I played it on my brothers wii u, in all honesty if i didnt own a wii u i would totally buy a wii u for Splatoon... and smash of course!

2nd week into Splatoon s debut and WiiU sold around 19,000 during it s second week ,up 2,000 from the release week.

So here is the numbers so far for Splatoon being released and helping boost sales for the WiiU. So far I say it is a system seller.

Global Numbers:

May 30th--- [Release week] 57,979 (+118%)
June 6th---[2nd week] 65,407 (+131%)
June 13th---[3rd week] 54,432 (+114%)

So with the year coming to a close looks like people should maybe listen instead of judge

Why are you still bumping this thread? Since you never specified how many systems it would need to move to be called a system seller, and since the Wii U is selling terribad still, this topic is pretty mute.

I'm bumping this thread because Splatoon has moved consoles 3 million sales 1.2 million in Japan says so. I did stop the tread when people said it was dead. But just like we do end of the year reviews this is a good thread to re visit.

But it's not for the reasons I just said. For atleast the third time, you did not a specify a number, therefore you could say Splatoon is a system seller regardless of how insignificant it's sales are, since the literal definition only requires it to have sold atleast one system. Obviously the game would do atleast that, we don't need this thread to tell us that. Another way your lack of specification could be taken is the game will sell a significant number of Wii U's that actually matters in the grand scheme of things. Well as we can see, it's still being outpaced by the Gamecube, so that's clearly not the case.

I went into town on Saturday, the WiiU section in GAME was abysmal, Grainger games on the other hand had quiet a selection of WiiU games and Toys R Us has a decent section with plenty of amiibo as well and a playing station for the WiiU for people to try.
