Well, it sold 1.62 million copies, and that's with it being slammed critically. It could grow to be something more, but it would need to be distinguishable enough from Mario Kart.

Do you know what the GC install base was at the time it reached 1.62 mil? Hmmm. That's a tough call.

Sorry, I have no clue. I'd imagine 14-15m maybe, assuming it was over 1m by 2004.

Since he doesn't have all that many games that come out, and the ones that do range from good to great, and they sell well, that seems highly unncecessary.

Not many games?

They don't sell all that well. Try something new, might sell a lot better. His games are lame, everyone here in Europe thinks that. We had a meeting.

I really don't consider that alot.  That's one per year (if you count the remake) and it's across 4 different consoles.  Only two of the games are all that similar.

And they do sell well.  Of the five games you mentioned, 3 are million sellers.  One missed the million mark by 30K, despite coming out on a dead system.  The other one that missed the million mark was a special edition thing which was produced in limited quantities.

The games all scored above 80% in aggregate critic rankings.

So, Nintendo is happy, America is happy, Japan is happy, and critics are happy.  And if Europe isn't happy, they can make like Kirby and suck it. :)

One game per year is A LOT.

And Kirby: Return to Dreamland only scored 77% on metacritic. And it's an average platformer that only gets high points because it's Kirby.

HAL should try something new, perhaps it could sell a lot more than Kirby. It's worth a shot. Basically every game made by Nintendo sells at least one million copies. Kirby should take a break.

We haven't had a Metroid game since 2007, no Star Fox since 2011, no F-Zero since 2004, no Golden Sun, no Wave Race, no Batallion Wars, etc.

OVer one million.  Epic Yarn was over 2, Superstar Ultra closer to 3, Return over 1.5, 3D at 1.3 and climbing w/o digital (with 190,000 coming from Europe, so I guess you don't all hate him).  Consistently outsells franchises like Fire Emblem Metroid, F-Zero, and Star Fox.  Aside from Mario, Zelda, maybe Donkey Kong, mainline Pokemon, and Animal Crossing, it sells better than pretty much anything else Nintendo does.

Return to Dreamland is over 80% on gamerankings.  And it gets high points cause it's a fun game.  User reviews bear that out.  Of course, the other games are appropriately scored better, cause they are better.

One game per year is not a whole lot compared to most Nintendo franchises.  It's more than things like F-Zero, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, etc, but that's cause it sells better than those.  :)

No one uses Gameranking lol. Besides Mario and Pokémon, Nintendo doesn't do yearly games for any franchise. Every Nintendo game has high user scores, even the bad ones.

Kirby will never reach those sales again. Kirby and the Rainbow curse will tank hard.

Latest Fire Emblem sold over 1.5 million as well. MP3 sold around 1.9M.

A new game made by HAL could sell more than Kirby, I'm sure of it. We'll see with Rainbow Curse.

Whether you use gamerankings or metacritic, Kirby's last five games were all above 75, and all but one above 80.  So good reviews either way you try to spin it.  VGC firures have Prime 3 at 1.9 million, which is less than Epic Yarn at over two million.

Dunno why you're saying Kirby won't reach those sales again when Triple Deluxe is doing very well.  When you align the launches in all regions, it's selling better than Awakening, so it should settle somewhere between 1.5 and 2 million.  Rainbow Curse will probably sell about as well as most first party games are selling for Wii U, so somewhere around 750k and 1 million.  More importantly it will be cute and cuddly and fun.

80% on metacritic is not good, especially for a Nintendo game. I've played a lot of bad games with high ratings on metacritic.
Fire Emblem Awakening made a shit ton of money with dlc, it's a lot more profitable than Kirby:

"Additionally, in September 2012, six months after its Japanese release, Nintendo reported that 1.2 million units of downloadable content had been sold, bringing in an additional 380 million yen (about $4.8 million)."[72].

It hadn't even released in the West by then.

Would it really be so bad if HAL made something else for a change? Jeez. This is why Sakurai left.

And I just know Rainbow Curse will sell bad. :p
