Forums - Gaming Discussion - Would you buy a game digitally if...

Well, I agree. My 10-15% was just an example.

Also, the problem is somewhat EU specific. US PSN and retail prices are always $60, while in EU both prices vary significantly, with €10-20 variations between games without any logic.

I forgot to add that I buy all digitally because I purchase from the US account, making all my digital games around €50, or about €10-20 less than I can find a retail disc.  Sadly, US Dollar started rising, the games are already some €8 more expensive than I paid 12 months ago.

Here in Australia standard pricing is basically $100 but physical can more often than not be found for $80 at launch. And yeah the rising US dollar sucks, I was just on Steam an realised how much less I would have paid for those games 12 months ago =(

Games are almost always cheaper to get brand new on Amazon. £40 on amazon, £45-£50 in Game and £50-£60 on PSN. It's ridiculous, I'd buy all my games digitally with a bigger HDD and it costing £40-£35.

I went into Game in mid-November and saw Infamous:SS for £60!

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

The main times I buy digital is when its pretty greatly discount like during steam sale or pre-sale promo so over 20%

I buy all digital games from the usa store so already it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying on disc or digital in Europe. But yes if they offered a discount I'd obviously continue but welcome the added bonus.

A very large portion of my PS3 games are digital. However, the most I've paid for any digital game (not including DLC) has been 30 dollars. Only about four games have cost me 30 dollar. Not a single one of the more than that.

Anywhere between 99 cents and 10 dollars is almost every other game.

I will not spend 60 bucks on any digital game, ever.

But, you have to consider, you're getting the game a month early, and if that's worth it. Otherwise, spend 60 dollars, and have the game not tied to your PSN account and not have it take up HDD space.

Each has their positive and negatives. At 60 bucks, though, I'd stay physical.

Everyone talks about 15-20%, I'm looking for 50%+ to even consider it.  Got Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate for about 14 dollars and some change.  Bought some DLC to go along with it, and the price went up to 54 dollars.  Must have saved at least 40 dollars on all that.  Paying full price for DoA is asking to be ripped-off.

GTAV, like I said, 50% off when I bought it.  Tomb Raider was 10 bucks, Max Payne 3 was 5, Assassin's Creed 3: Ultimate Edtion, was about 25 if memory serves. Soul Calibur V was even 10 dollars.  But, you know what?  Soul Calibur V was a game I skipped in favor of another.  And, I'm so glad I did skip it, because Soul Calibur V is the worst game in the series.  It might be better than Soul Edge, but that's only considering the fact that Soul Edge is so old.  Which isn't really fair.

But, had I bought that game at 60, I would have been disappointed.  It's a bad game.  I still feel ripped, eventhough it only cost me 10 dollars.

Well, my OCD makes me want all or nothing with my games. Either all physical or all digital for retail games...

If you remember, I was highly considering going all digital this gen but felt it wasn't time yet in the end. The Wii U ties the games to the console so I'm not going to risk buying digital games for it.

The PS4 is more digital friendly but still has the price issue. I can normally find physical games cheaper on sites like Amazon or eBay even at launch.

So, digital games are more convenient and I like the format better but cheaper prices & more freedom to do what I wish with the game outweigh it. Pros > cons for physical.

If games were released early on digital, I would wait for physical still. If prices were cheaper digital, I'd jump on it. I can normally get a game for $53 or so, tax included. The discount would need to be at least equal. (15% off would be nice)

I still have issues buying a game digitally, it's the idea that I might just not like it and then can't do anything with that I just purchased. The games digitally would have to not just be cheaper but significantly and there should be a way to 'trade' it back in if you just don't want it anymore, the latter is very unlikely so until there is a way, I'm sticking with discs, delayed or not. (I rarely buy new/day one anyway).

Hmm, pie.

Only option b) would tempt me, but not at 10-15%.

You can do what I do... Create a separate account for each game, then when you are done with it just sell the entire account.

An interesting concept. Although a lot of effort, I'm a lazy bastard you see. :)
