FFXII and Cenoblade had a lot in common

None, after playing the first Xenoblade. Xenoblade's combat is alright. There are lots of little combos and power boost you can do by mixing status effects but It feels a bit clunky sometimes. If FFXV can play more like KH, that's a great change in my mind.

I'm not going to demand a PS4 game on Wii U, I can't think how a limited studio like Monolith can do something very good-looking like Final Fantasy XV, especially where they are working on. And as for the characters, I gotta agree, it's a design choice. |
Well square Enix has had what like 10 years to polish FF15.

The sales argument is a very weak one. I didn't know you could play sales. |
its the only applicable comparison here since we can't actually play the games in question right?
if i'm wrong tell me what gripes you had personally after playing final fantasy 15? oh wait you can't
also its rather ironic that its being said that final fantasy needs to take pointers from xenoblade when xenoblade as others have pointed out follows several design cues from ff12 which is not surprising since as i mentioned earlier final fantasy is decades old and one of the most iconic series in gaming and perhaps the most iconic jrpg
and finally you really believe that square is worried in any way about xenoblade? a game that hasn't managed to break 1 million against their series that routinely sells in the millions? that is how a rivalry is defined fear of a party separate from yourself that poses a threat to you... that does not describe xenoblade

Have you played modern FF games? Hint: the series has dropped a lot in quality (imo)
Is Justin Bieber a better artist than Dante Alighieri? More people know Bieber. Xenoblade was a new ip and had a very limited print. It's also an exclusive, so stop talking about its sales while ignoring the context. Obviously the franchises have similarities. Monolith Soft consists of ex-Square employees who worked on FF. Xenoblade is miles above anything Square has created in the last generation.
What about using Metacritic as a comparison instead of sales? ;)

From a developer of FF. ;)

before you lecture me on context i think you need to first look up the definition of "rivalry"
as for the rest of that post its pretty much subjective
people loved ff13 and i know a person personally who absolutely loves playing ff14
but that is irrelevant regardless because ff15 does not have the same design philosophy as ff13 or ff14 which is ultimately why all of these offhand comments denigrating ff15 because ff13 was not liked or whatever are pointless
perhaps the whole thread itself is pointless for this very reason as the op appears to assume that the design philosophies in ff13 and ff15 are the same and that would be a wrong assumption

I never said anything about rivalry and I'm sure devs can feel rivaled by other games based on quality. Don't pretend you know what goes on in their heads.

The former, not the latter. Its the 2nd most iconic jrpg WW :)

"I never said anything about rivalry"
lol so why did you quote me? my post was about the claim that there is a rivalry... the post started like this "there is no rivalry..."
although i guess its possible that you quoted me without actually intending to discuss what i was discussing
