There is NO way that it is that tiny compared to the original. That would just be epic but I doubt it.

You see that? that big chunk of PS4 is the PSU. On the XB1 it makes that power brick that comes with it. The current PS4 can be about 2/3rd its current size if they made that brick external.

Now with manufacturing potentially allowing them to use half as much space for the apu, memory and a smaller fan, then with an external PSU, do you really still think its impossible?

Anyways, if that is really how the PS4 slim looks, that's one stupid fine console.

It will be a relief if its not true as its damn ugly but if the psu went external and they moved to 22nm instead of the current 28nm it seems like something that is possible. The comparison image may not be true to scale between the two though. At this stage it may just be a simple comparison image. The thing that gives it weight to me is the horrible styling seems like something that could have come from the same designers of the ps4. I equally hate both designs. Not impressed with the styling of this generation. The xbone is even uglier again.

Found this on Reddit. Based on the standard PS4's dimensions and scaling that down to this supposed PS4 slim a disc wouldn't even fit in the console. Blu-ray discs are 120mm in diameter, the disc tray in the picture is only 84.17mm.

Tamron beat them to it ;P

If this is real then the console looks like it has the slot-loading drive at the top which is interesting...

Holy crap, that is pretty fucking tiny.

I'm now filled with determination.

hmmm worth having an external power brick?  Guess so if they could make the console that sleek lookin.  If they bring out a slim this year along with a $100 price cut (would only do that if they were still making profit or at least even) it would reach new heights.  I doubt they wanna play such a big card this early though and with the system already doing so well.  I'm guessing $50 price cut this September then in 2016 we get a slim along with $299 in the Fall.

I don't see how a PS4 slim is needed considering it's already pretty small. At least compared to the first PS3. A slim is not needed now if ever.

Here is the thing about a slim. When manufacturing of the apu and memory chips shift to 20nm, they can basically half the size of the apu and use only 8 instead of 16 memory chips. they can also put a much smaller cooling unit since the smaller apu draws less power. basically, the size of the board can literally be cut in half.

It makes less sense putting a smaller board, smaller PSU and smaller fan into an oversized shell. Plastic costs money too you know? and packaging and shipping costs for a smaller console saves a lot of money too.

Sony doesn't make the slims cause its cool, they make them cause it saves them money.

So I guess overclocking the CPU is out of the question because my PS4 fans get loud already.
