Forums - Sony Discussion - Why did Sony make the Vita if they were planning to make a streaming service anyway?

You're thinking backwards. The chicken came before the egg in this case.

I can use my PS Now Sub on my vita?

In fact you can stream play anywhere with decent wifi, like most people's offices.

What? PSNow doesn't stream PS4 games (yet). That service is still exclusive to the Vita.

Shes not talking about PSnow, she's talking about remote play. and that just streams your PS4, regardless of whatever you are making it do.

To OP. I don't think when Sony made the vita they considered its "primary" focus to be remote play. And its still not a primary feature.

A better question would be, "why did Sony make the vita when they make mobile phones and tablets" The Billions they invested into the vita could have been better spent marketing their mobile range, cause they do make exceptional mobile devices.

You're asking why Sony released a handheld in 2011 when they were going to create a streaming service in 2014?

Yes. Why would Sony release a streaning service that would render the handheld obselete?

I think the Vita's value and purpose goes beyond being a streaming device lol

Also remote play wasn't exactly doing wonders for its sales, so no need to keep it as an exlusive feature

For now. For now. But then it will release on other devices, making the Vita obselete!

PS Vita was announced in 2010. The console released in 2011. Gaikai was acquired in 2012.

Your questions make no sense.

Let's assume Sony's streaming service was planned years in advance (somehow). How would that change anything? I don't suspect that Japan (it's largest demographic) would run up and embrace the idea of streaming Soul Sacrifice instead of playing it on the train.

Remote Play is a primary focus for me. I like playing games on the toilet. Especially Guilty Gear.

Wasn't Gakai working with Sony before it got acquired? Also, I thought consoles in Japan were irrelevant. I'm pretty sure more PS4s sold would make more profit than Vitas sold.
