Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer Unveils New Experiences for Xbox One and Windows 10 Gamers

bleh. Sounds like a complete waist of time in my honest opinion. What do they expect to achieve with this? This is not benefiting the xbox consumer.

I wouldn't buy an Xbox One to play Xbox One games on my PC, but for those who already own one this is pretty baller.

Yeah, I get that they want to sell more XBOX systems, but nothing announced will make me want to actually buy one.  Especially since my consoles and my PC are all hooked into the same TV, this feature is pretty redundant for my setup.

I think it's more of a cool little feature. Unless the marketing plan is 'Hey, buy this machine so you can play your games for that machine on other devices' then that would be silly.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Seems like more of a PR stunt to sell more xbone and windows 10. I don't see the point of streaming a console game on a pc if you have the console anyway. The biggest reason to play a game on pc is for the mods the users eventually create for it and I doubt you could mod a streamed game.

Can't wait for dx12

Aside from the cross game stuff I don't even see who that is supposed to appeal to. Oh and Direct X12.

Other than that there are dozens of services and programs on PC that already do what this seems to be doing.

Xbox gamers...
Maybe it will actually turn some of them from Xbox One to PC lol.

OT: So they will charge for Xbox Live on PC. Good luck getting new members

This is the beginning of xbox becoming steam and the end of xbox consoles. That's what I'm seeing.

"Now, while Xbox is coming to Windows, Windows 10 is also coming to Xbox One. As you know, Xbox One runs on Windows today for its app environment. Later this year we’ll update to Windows 10 to enable seamless interaction with PC gamers and to give developers who want to extend their applications to the television an easy path to do so."

So, I will be able to download any .exe software and install on my Xbox One, or plug a mouse and keyboard and text, photoshop, manage files, run a linux virtual machine, or even run steam games, and play them with keyboard and mouse, all on Xbox One?

Seriously doubtful.

They didn't announce it but I think it is possible.

If this were to happen I could see the XB1 becoming the market leader.

No, Win32 will not be coming to X1. Microsoft is very careful about naming with Windows 10, but it's as separated as it always was.

Previous way :

Windows Phone/Mobile was totally separate from Windows Desktop (XP/Vista/7)
Then with Windows 8/8.1, they added the 'Windows Apps' (read : they were jealous of Apple and Google selling apps and making a mint) as something you could use on the desktop, but you could also use desktop-side legacy applications of full scale like Photoshop, full office suite, games, etc.
With Windows 10, they are naming the mobile windows and desktop windows the same things, but only the desktop PCs will be able to run the full gamut of typical PC applications (in addition to the mobile ápps' that they are so desperate to push).

X1 and Phone will only be able to run the apps, but no traditional software that you would envision a PC of running (unless someone makes an app version of it).

The easiest example I can give you if you've used Windows 8/8.1 is the Internet Explorer. There is a desktop version and a metro/App version both preinstalled. If you open the desktop version, you see all the familiar menus, the start menu/taskbar is at the bottom, etc. If you open the app version, you get a touch-optimized full screen version that is cut down a good bit.

All in all it's not a bad thing, but I have had Windows 8+ since before it was released, and I've never bought, nor will I ever likely buy any Apps from the MS store or other source. I suppose they could force it, but I inevitably find that the app versions of things is less useful than a desktop version of the software for use on PC or Laptop.

For someone that's bought into Windows Phone, Windows RT, that kind of thing, it could be useful.
