I don't think it's a failure. Sure it didn't come out on top last gen, but it helped set the groundwork for the PS4 which is doing extremely well comparatively.

As much as allot of gamer's want to think that the race between the 360 and PS3 was close, you 100% have to consider the 360's RROD into the equation.

Without the "success" of the RROD and I say success because it was a masterful move by M$. Rush the console out, get gamer's to buy them,....... Even if over 25% of the initial consoles are a failure, so what will gamer's do ? YES,.......... purchase another console........ Brilliant.

Without the RROD, the 360 vs PS3 race would have not even been a race at all.

Not a failure overall but it should've been much better. The thing is, it just didn't make Sony money. It had an incredible turnaround though.
