Forums - PC Discussion - Brand New Laptop Keyboard Is Causing Weird Issues! Help!

I don't have another keyboard that I can use to plug into the motherboard =/

When I insert the keyboard into the slot nothing happens but as soon as I push the slot down that's when the errors start to occur. Does that mean it's the port?

First image is the slot thing pushed up and second image is the slot thing pushed down onto the cable for the keyboard.

I contacted the seller he told me to clean it. I cleaned it with some alcohol but it didn't do anything =/

Did the new keyboard flash update your bios?  I was recently looking up on replacing a battery on an old Vaio laptop and read about how some replacement batteries from China flash updated the bios because Sony made it so only official Sony batteries would work and to get around this the unofficial batteries would update the bios when plugged in.

I don't know how much truth there is to this or if I remember the details properly because I'm just going off what I read, but it might be worth asking a Dell technician if they have any ideas.  Some of the boot problems you describe may point to an bios issue though.

edit-

Is this your model laptop shown in this keyboard replacement video here. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObwzxYQqI-g

It seems like quite the process to remove the keyboard, so if any of the connections were not put back properly that might also be causing the issues?

This is the video I used when I was replacing the keyboard.

When I first opened up the laptop to clean up the lemonade spills, after I put it all back together I had none of the issues I am having now with the new keyboard. When I had the old keyboard plugged in the only problem I had was the keys themselves weren't working so I just figured it was a broken keyboard and I got it replaced.

Also with this new keyboard, you guys know the numbers on the top and how they have secondary functions when you hold shift, well for some reason this keyboard only types out the secondary functions even if I am not holding shift. I can't use the numbers at all.

Also another weird issue is caps lock has to be on for the keys to be lower case, and when caps lock is turned off the keys are upper case. It's backwards...

When I plug in the keyboard it's also interfering with my mouse...I can't scroll up and down with it and also as I said in my original comment when I click on a file it will highlight all the previous files before it. So if I click google chrome on my desktop and then I click steam, it will highlight all of the icons that go between those two icons.

Did you install any software that came with the new keyboard?

What does it show for 'device status' under keyboard in 'device manager'?

Your Shift key is stuck. It is either the keyboard or the connector, but that is explaining all your symptoms.

Says this device is working properly. No I didn't install any new software.

Wildcard36qs is right about the symptoms pointing to shift key being pressed.

If it was the CTRL key being pressed then I would suggest the following:

Try enabling Num Lock.

If your dell doesn't have a Num Lock key then I think you have to hold the 'function' key and press the 'print screen' key.

Another thing to check is the touchpad properties and see if turning off the zoom in/out feature helps.

those solutions were found here. - http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19276896/19515084#19515084

But it does sound like it is the Shift that is stuck and not the Ctrl.

Also check your 'sticky key' settings in ease of access center.
