What controllers do you guys use for PS2 emulation?

I use my original wireless Dualshock 3 controller that came with my PS3. I use the MotioninJoy software and a Bluetooth dongle to connect it to PC. It can be a pain to get it working at first but once you learn the few steps (their sequence) it's as easy as few clicks. In case you have a Dualshock 3, here is the tutorial that I used:

Thanks again!

If you have issues with MotionJoy, use the DS3 with a USB cable. It is much easier to setup. However, the DS4 works much better on PC with DS4Windows (version 1.5 and newer are the best).

Emulation is a nice thing. I play all the really old stuff with emus. And ZSNES for example is perfectly stable.

Dolphin is, at least with some of the interesting games to togh for my notebook though. i7-2670QM and GF GT540.

I'd give PCSX2 another try, but it looks like i have to get a new decent desktop for that.

And no, it's not like gonna pirate em all. You can dump your originals.

Damn, ZSNES is still a thing? I used it over 14 years ago :)

I really wonder if I could run that emulator on my laptop...

And I can use original discs, right? Or do I need ISOs?

What are your specs? Emulation speed (in general) relies a lot in CPU speed (not clockspeed).

I know you probably already know this, but I wanted to clarify a part of your post for others. Clockspeed is still important. There isn't much multi-threading in emulation, at most two cores/threads are used so that makes it a very clock-speed dependent application when talking about intel vs. intel or amd vs. amd (Instructions per cycle on each core are also important so Intel vs. AMD doesn't work.) People always say go for IPC and clock-speed over anything else if you want to emualate games at the best settings. An i3 or Pentium at 3.2 GHZ + is going to be better than an i7 at 2.4ghz, for example, despite having a fourth to half of the threads, because these applications just don't use multi-threading or more than two cores (there are some instances where they can, but it shows minimal difference.)

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4700MQ-vs-Intel-Core-i3-4130

Having said that, his CPU should run most games at full speed (don't know which resolution with his GPU, guessing 720p.)

Perhaps I should've said "not necessarily", yes. Thing is clockspeed doesn't really improve (at least on x86 or x64) since many years, yet the performance increased a lot due to new architectures, more cache, smt, new instructions and so on. That's why I said speed in general so that people who overclock a core 2 duo to high speeds think this would be enough (although it could) or would outdo a more modern cpu just because of the higher clockspeed.

SNES was the best console and SNES games were the best console games "hands down."

Carry on.

You're derailing spemanig. You can disagree, but PS2's library isn't comparable to any platform based on the extremely high number of good games.

Question for those who emulate, are the programs compatible with legit PS2 saves? i would probably do it if I could carry over  my existing PS2 saves that I have.

@Walsufnir:
Yes. ZSNESW is still the best SNES emulator. Even for betas. Then either scanlines, hqx filters and the old stuff still looks nice on hdtv's.
I basically have all the old stuff running on emus. Next step would be get enough power to play all the PS2 and GC games in 1080p. There are some that run decently right now while others dont.

Imo emulators are bad, they have tons issues and glitches. I rather play games on original hardware with original controllers, and these consoles do look good on your tv with the right cables and equippment

And yes you can also pirate on original hardware if you know how to mod

Nor the hardware or the DVDs are that safe against the test of time. I once bought an old PS2 with Shadow of the Colossus. The machine was pretty old, but I cleaned its insides as best as I could. The first time I'm playing SotC, and imagine my surprise when the game kept glitching out: the ground dissapeared a couple of times, some of the textures became green, others became oversimplified... Always hearing about how much of a masterpiece the game was, and I was fighting to travel around in the overworld without any ground! The console was too old, and it died months after I beat the game. The last thing I played on the machine was the first level of God of War, and it looked and sounded like a bad creepypasta: enemies deformed, colours and textures altered, music distorted... then the console died and was unable to repair it. Now I emulate PS2.

And a another ps2 costs what, 20-30 bucks? Thats not much money if you consider that you can play ps1 and ps2 games. Very rarely it can happen that their chips get faulty.
