It's losing massive marketshare relative to the 360's gains, so MS certainly think it is. Consoles are selling faster and earlier because of today's early adopter culture, but MS are losing brutally where it counts: Percentage of the market.

It's not massive at all though. In the US it has about 37.1% marketshare compared to 39.4% for the 360. Globally it has 28.6% compared to the 360's 31.3%

Yeah, it's dropped. But 2-3% is hardly a massive drop.

You're counting the Wii, which is effectively a separate market except for perhaps a few percentage points. The only thing that matters to MS, other than profitability, is marketshare versus PlayStation. Nintendo are largely a non-factor in this rivalry.

This is why we have to consider our data qualitatively in social science, lest we do misleading things like ignore the Wii to Wii U plummet.

Of course it isn't.

On itself and against other Xbox systems it is a success. Selling better and being more reliable.

Compared to ps Family it sells lower and seems like a big mofo engeneering/design mistake. But as system is doing better than any competitor dig when Sony didn't fucked up.

What are you talking about? It is already close to the market share 360 had at the end of 7th Gen.

You're accidentally abusing the data to make an incorrect observation. Read my response to Ka-pi for more detail; I'm on mobile.

Xbox fans said a lot last gen Ps3 was a failure because 360 took market share away, now that doesn't matter? No one at MS is happy with x1 being outsold in every territory, and losing the gains it had from last gen to Sony, so yes it that respect it is a failure. Ms didn't enter consoles to be dominated by sony, and the living room dream is dead.

X1 lost all momentum 360 had, MS is not happy with there position.

Of course not. And you can't blame Don for not trying to make it a failure... so in spite of him and Microsoft's most genuine attempts at sabotaging the Xbox One, it is surviving.

When it comes to market share, no matter how you look at it the Xbox one is a failure. It's had no wins when compared to the 360. Regarding how much money Microsoft has had the use on the Xbox One compared to other consoles, also makes it a failure. The fire sale, the free games, the already losing money before the sales. The huge behind the scene deals on NFL, Tomb Raider, and Mass Effect. No cost revisions meanwhile DDR3 has gone up significantly in price and is continuing to go up which I still believe is the major design failure. The sunk costs in the TV programs.

Investors can't be happy.

Hey you spelled losing right. I was afraid ppl had turned the word into loosing lol.

People like to compare X1 to PS4 sales and call it a relative failure, which it is. PS4 sales are much bigger due to low entry point. Adjusted for inflation the $500/$600(2006/7) price would be an equivalent of $610/$735 in todays dollars(imagine PS4 sales at that price point), the $400(2013/4) price point is an equivalent of a PS3 launched at $340(imagine PS3 sales at that price point.). XBox prices are closer to what they were at launch($400/$500 in 2014=$330/410 in 2005 dollars). Its selling better than its predecessor, but X360 had some supply issues in the first couple of months which may explain some of the +3 million difference.

People like to focus on the excellent PS4 sales compared to the lesser X1 sales. Thats not really the correct way to look at it. We have no hard numbers on people converting from one system to another and we dont know if gamers on x platform are going to buy more at one price point more than another. As of now the X1 is doing fantastic, but it could easily have lost a ton of marketshare, something we wont know til a few years out.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
