Forums - General Discussion - They added a block feature! No. what if they actually did?

This was a post of mine that I decided to just start a thread about. Perhaps it might be implemented if enough like the idea.

"I'm pretty sure that someone has suggested it at some point but I'll do it anyway. I would like to suggest that a "block user" feature be added to the forums. As in that neither the person who was blocked or the person who did the blocking could see eachother's threads/posts. On someone else's thread, they just wouldn't see eachother's posts. Here's some points on why it would greatly improve the forum.

It would allow us to self moderate our own threads to prevent them from being locked because of a few posters. The OP could temporarily block someone that they felt was going overboard or they could just keep that person blocked if they wanted. The blocked user would just move onto a different thread and perhaps contribute to it. If someone was going around and annoying whatever fan base, they could just block him instead of him getting reported to no end and being banned constantly. Also, it would help with people that feel like their reporting isn't doing much. If someone kept bothering them, they could just block 'em.

I noticed that many decent threads always end up locked or abandoned because mods start threatening posters with bans and people just stop posting on that thread to be safe. That hurts discussion. If users could resolve things within their own thread without involving the mods, it would be great. The discussion continues and no one gets banned.

Blocking is a double edged sword. If you block too many people, you won't see that many threads or people posting. If you get blocked by a lot of people, you won't see many threads or posters.  So most people wouldn't use it a lot but on here they might at first. haha

It would probably help the mods in their duties with light offenses and many other things. I'm not criticizing the mods. I'm just giving a suggestion to improve the forums."

What do you think? Like the idea of it? Tell us your thoughts and discuss. Oh here's my original post. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7012475

lol, no one is maintaining this site anymore.  if you go to the yearly charts you can get a real good idea of how long it has been since ioi cared to invest in vgchartz.    ..maybe you should suggest this on gamewise.

How do the yearly charts gauge how much ioi cares in to invest into vgchartz? Does he not keep updating the weekly charts?

He's trying to do too much by himself. I read somewhere that he's looking for people to work on the site. Anyway, would you like if he added a block feature to the forums?

This would make sense if you could block yourself from seeing that person.  An ability to block others from seeing a person is what MODS are for.

It is near the end of the end....

it's not what mods do. There's plenty of forums that use a block system. It just keeps the (a)person who blocked the other person and (b) the person who was blocked from seeing eachother's posts or threads. They can't fight or antagonize eachother until the block is deactivated.
