Well, this came out around the same time, and it's not exactly pro-Bush:

EDIT: For some reason, the embedded video is not showing up in this post, so here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox0Q4YIdnGI

It's pretty much my favorite Eminem song.

Wow, I've never seen this before. Props to Eminem.

I wonder why Madonna was ostricized and not Eminem? Maybe it just has to do with the fact that she's a woman and people didn't expect/want that kind of content from her? Really strange..

It could also be there's a big difference between April 2003 and October 2004. Can't say I remember it all that well, but Bush may have still been somewhat popular in early '03.

Probably because he had already set a precedent for political songs. On the Eminem Show the first track was 'White America'. He was also at the height of his fame while Madonna was in her twilight (which she refuses to leave). Edit: and also the politics of the time as others already alluded to.

Nah today's music is about appealing to a young audience. Bubblegum pop crap. Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber are no Hendrix or The Who.

It's not about what's popular, the 60s and 70s were no different in that regard. Most of the chart-toppers were pop music. Besides, everybody starts somewhere. Before The White Album and Let it Be, The Beatles did Please Please Me and Hard Day's Night. Before Who's Next, The Who had My Generation and A Quick One. The musicians were still great but the lyrics weren't exactly inspired.

lol yeah I can definitely see Justin Bieber equalling Abbey Road haha

Sundin13 is right about Rise Against. Since their fourth album they've made a lot of political songs. My mind immediately went to Immortal Technique and I forgot about them.

Pretty much all of their albums except the first one have had a lot of socio-political themes:

Yeah, I agree on all accounts.

OT: I just thought of this, but This is War by 30 Seconds to Mars is also a really good protest song.

Well, I'm not trying to compare Justin Bieber directly to a previous artist. But the Jackson 5 was pretty popular at that time, yeah? There's nothing particularly meaningful about Want You Back or ABC. They're pretty run-of-the-mill pop songs.

They're great, Jackson's great, not trying to compare Bieber to MJ. But most pop songs are about teenagers boning, it's just the way things are.

Decent point actually about Michael Jackson, but back then you at least had to have some talent to make a great album. I would actually like to see Justin make a Thriller/Abbey Road/Tommy status album, simply because the world needs more good music but I doubt it because "Baby" and whatever sells, not Human Nature or Come Together anymore.

Plus too many Politically COrrect people in music. No one wants to offend anyone.

System of a Down was great in the early 2k's they had a lot of anti was and gov songs

http://moongypsy.bandcamp.com/ ~Thank you Stefl1504 for the amazing sig~

Since you brought up Ohio the best version of the song is by the Isley Brothers plus they also combined it with another protest song "Machine Gun" by Jimi Hendrix.
