Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Games Look Great At Higher Resolutions!

Thread author please remove those misleading pics or make proper ones, yours look like crap :p

I only tried Xenoblade Chronicles, it looks amazing in Dolphin max settings - like PC games post 2005 on max settings.

The thing about emulators is that they are not a 'true' representation of what the native hardware(in this case, the Wii) could do. I play N64 roms and they look a million times better on an emulator than they do on an N64 even through an RGB SCART connection which is the best the N64 can get. Even a GC/Wii hooked up via component-to-HDMI cable won't look half as good as a PC monitor running a GC/Wii game through an emulator running 4XAA etc.

Yes, the point of this thread was that the geometry, textures, etc were hidden behind blur and jaggies in low-res Wii games. Once you alleviate this resolution problem you see a level of detail you hadn't before.

I don't care about Wii (for now) so I won't, but I will create a thread about PS2 emulation. EMUALTION F0R L4IFE!!

My Etsy store

My Ebay store

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Anyone ever use a upscaler with component cables? I've always been curious about it.

I'll contribute to that thread. :) Plenty of PS2 emulation I've been doing as well.

Out of curiosity, what are the specs of your PC, and what are you using as a controller?

My original Wiimote from when I bought my wii with motion + addon.

Pentium G3258 OC'd 4.4ghz

r9 280x 3gb (stock, not-overclocked)

500 W Corsair CX

8 gb Crucial Balstix DDR3 1300 mhz

1 TB HDD (still wating for a good deal on an SSD)

Windows 7 Service Pack 1

AsRock Anniversary Edition Z97 Motherboard

The Pentium is holding me over until I can find a cheap overclockable broadwell i5. It runs great with emulators, since they only use at most two threads anyway.

Hmm, sounds like my PC should hold up pretty well then... so do you think I'd be okay with just buying a Wiimote (Should I get normal or Plus?) and a Nunchuck, and using the sensor bar that came with my Wii U? Not sure how I'd go about setting up the controls really, since for all my emulator needs I usually just use my wired 360 controller, lol

Yeah the CPU is the most important when it comes to emulation. As long as your cpu has a high IPC  you should be fine. You need a bluetooth adapter of some kind, either built in or a usb one. If it is an official Nintendo wiimote all you need to do is have your bluetooth driver recognize this (it should be automatic, depending on your driver.) Then you can use your Wii's sensor bar, I have my Wii next to my PC and turn it on after I connect my Wiimote (so that the Wiimote doesn't tether to the Wii.) You don't have to mess with settings if you're using a Wiimote, all you have to do is choose Real Wiimote in dolphin's Wiimote tab. For GC games you can use your 360 controller.

Also if you want to play Skyward Sword or Red Steel 2, I'd recommend getting a plus (or normal + plus attachment.)

So you're telling me a higher resolution makes games look better?

I don't believe it. I heard you need a 55+ inch TV to even notice the SLIGHT difference.

that is true with most games on playstation and xbox.   it is scientific fact that color responds better to resolution increases than browns and greys do.

Some more Skyward Sword screens
