Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Games Look Great At Higher Resolutions!

So I just started a replay of Skyward Sword on Dolphin, and I just want to say how great the game looks. It truly looks how it was meant to be. So I decided to make a thread where I'm going to post screenshots of Wii games, mostly at 1080p , 4x SSAA, with a post-processing effect program that adds FXAA, better bloom, and HDR called SweetFx. Some games, like Metroid Prime 3 don't work too well at 1080p (on my PC with this version of Dolphin) and with any AA, but I'll post the screens just because of how it can potentially look on Wii U if remastered, or in the future when Dolphin finally gets the game to run well. A lot of detail is revealed in Wii games when their image quality allows it. It's quite impressive.  I'll post more SS screens as I play the game.

If you ask me, a lot of Wii games look great even at 480p.

Yeaa! 1080p truly does wonders to Nintendo published wii games! They be soo good

I really need to get a tube telly that supports 480p. SD games still look great on a tube.

Yeah, but on any HD television or monitor the aliasing is insanely bad, and the blur leave out a lot of obvious details. At 720p + the Wii games look as good as many early gen PS360 games, in my opinion, and of course at 1080p the image quality is better than all PS360 games. Skyward Sword is a game that especially benefits from the removal of aliasing and blur in my opinion, it brings out the artstyle a lot.

So you're telling me a higher resolution makes games look better?

I don't believe it. I heard you need a 55+ inch TV to even notice the SLIGHT difference.

I always smile whenever I see pics of Xenoblade.

Anyways, looks great. I'm not sure if anyone else can relate on this, but I think whenever you play on Wii Mode on max resolution, the screen ends up having a black border.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I still found games like Kirby's Epic Yarn, Muramasa, Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3 quite visually pleasing at 480p through component cables.

Also, how are you taking the screenshots? They look odd

That's the overscan area limit. All games in SD did that to keep the action in that area, for tube TV's. HD doesn't really need it anymore and will display the full area.
