Youtube compression. Go to your screen resolution on your desktop wallpaper and change from 720p to 1080p and I'd be amazed if you don't see a difference.

Just changes the size and skews the image? OK, I'll take your word for it...

I'm sure there are plenty who don't put much value in the difference, but i find it very difficult to believe anyone who says they can't see any difference in an optimal comparison. I find the alternative, that those of us who can (which appears to the majority) have better eyes or are somehow inherently more observant, improbable.

Well depends on what your setup is and what you are doing.


If you have an average TV with motion blur maybe even with ghosting.

And you are playing fast games with AA and motion blur you cannot really that the image lacks half the details of a 1080p scene. (Human eye does have bad motion resolution anyway. TVs also have thats why they always show stills or slomo footage in stores)

If its a still image then totally. Because I have enough time to spot everything.

Anything that's not 1080p on a 1080p TV will look blurry. 900p is a bit blurry but when all your other games are in 1080p you notice right away.. 720p just lack details at this point there is no more subtelty at all.

Now it bothers me A LOT more in games than on movies (however DVD quality bother me).

I don't give a fuck about frame rate and resolution as long as the game is playable. My PC could run Devil May Cry at 280fps and i'm playing FF XIII at 30 - 60 fps now.

Back in PlaystationOne era, most good games only ran at 18fps (battle) and 30fps(world map).
