Will Sony make a successor for Vita ?

Yes, they can make a successful handheld. 77 20.81%

No, they're done with portable gaming. 293 79.19%

Total:370

Well, I see a lot of people who believe Sony will not be making a new dedicated handhelm gaming platform after the massive comercial failure that Vita is.

I personally don't think they will give up.

Ok, they made some terrible strategy decisions with Vita, but they also made the PSP which was amazing and sold 80M.

Do you guys think Sony will try again after Vita ?   Also, in your opinions,  What Did Sony do wrong with Vita ?

They gave up support for it after the first year. No more Uncharted, Kill Zone No TLOU etc. All the big western support dried up pretty quickly. Western games usually are important for a system to sell in the west. Wii U without support from EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc. are prime examples.

I don't think they should make another handheld because the nature of hardware is constantly shifting. Look at PS4. It went from 'Supercharged PC' to out of date within the span of a year. And since Sony's hardware focus is always on power, then it would defeat the purpose. Plus Sony has enough trouble making first party games for PS4, much less trying to support a handheld too.

I think they would like to but don't have the means.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Between the huge success of the PSP and the way the handheld market eroded this generation, I could really see it go either way. My gut says Sony won't give up entirely, but their next handheld will be even more of an extension of their home console line (focus on remote play, PS Now, and ports) than the Vita is rather than a platform unto itself.

If Nintendo itself if fighting with teeth and claws to keep its handheld market from shrinking, Sony won't be interested in the efford. The Vita will probably last a long time, because its pretty powerful already, but Sony will not invest in more gaming handhelds when they can just use its mobile department for that.

The PSP was victim of its own hardware. It was a very powerful and advanced handheld for the time, in a moment before tablets and smartphones could really compete in the multimedia department. Also, really easy piracy sold a ton of units too. The Vita has neither of this things, and I don't see how its "successor" could improve on that.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It's pretty clear that they're done. Especially with PS Now and Remote Play.

They might release one in Japan, but not in the West.

Dont think they have the conditions. They will simply use the mobile space.

Probably not. Considering how poorly Vita is performing, the apparently shrinking HH market and the financial risk of releasing a new HH in this situation makes it seem less that likely. I don't think Sony is willing to throw away money like that right now, or in 2-3 years time either. Nintendo is dominating that market, and even they are losing ground. That's quite telling.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

no. and they shouldnt. Vita was an utter failure. even the nintendo handheld market shrank considerably, its just not as big as it used to be and will continue to shrink.
