I am pretty sure I have a 17" TV,  does have HD though!

It surely explains why you prefer 720p... Try it on a 40'.

It's not "better looking textures". It's called image clarity. It helps you to see what is happening in the game. Even on a competitive online game, it's an advantage.

It depends on the title. For strategy games i prefer a bigger resolution but in action titles ill go for framerate any day.

1080p @ 30fps. I rather actually see what I'm shooting at in an online game...

Are we to conclude you never played games before this new gen, or only on PC with gimped fps? Because otherwise you wouldnt be able to see anything. Yeah... the exageration isnt doing you any favors.

The only way anyone can tell the difference is to stand really close and have a gigantic TV. Should we really be catering to such a minority at the cost of the gameplay and smoother animations everyone can benefit from?

Logic in this industry... its missing.

Also, peeps saying it depends on the genre... nope, it doesnt. Every single genre benefits on the gameplay department from 60 fps. Smoother animation, faster response time, faster processing of events in your head because your eyes capture them sooner. It is for every genre. A turn based game would be the exception, but only on the gameplay. Animations playing would still look much nicer.

I can see the difference in my 40' TV sitting at a good 2.5 meters. It isn't a gigantic TV, it's basicaly the cheapest HDTV you can pick up since 32' prices aren't much different. The upscaling messing with the quality results in a blured image so I lose detail. I don't see enemies at far distances that well. In TLOU, it isn't helping me to snipe since I prefer to keep the scope off and just try to search distant enemies with a higher fov.

If you think it don't make difference unless you have a 80' screen, then the only one that's is missing some logic is you.

Framerate is surely more important than resolution, but honestly, I don't mind either. Whether it's single player or multiplayer, I'd have any of them. As long as the framerate stays above 30fps and the game looks good on either resolution, I don't mind either.

The ones who make a big deal out of this are the ones who want to downplay the company because they didn't deliver on their promises that the console will be 1080p60fps.

Don't care aslong as 30 is locked 99% of the time same goes for 60fps locked or nothing.

1080p and a constant framerate (30 fps is fine).

I like eye candy.

Although 60 fps games are smoother, I think the overall impact isn't that significant (given that you also have to deal with controller input lag, network lag and screen display lag).

Most games that aim for 1080p 30 FPS, aren't actually consistently 30 FPS. since there goal is eye candy. So they hit 30 FPS with drops.

While games that aim for 720p 60 FPS, seem to actually hit their mark since their goal was smooth gameplay.

That's completely anecdotal however.

I agree 100%.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I would always prefer 720p 60fps. Even though its a lower resolution, I would much rather have a higher frame rate instead
