1080p/30fps
If I wanted to play games in 720p I would not have upgraded.

Everyone banging on about fps. Until recently tv's in pal regions were 50Hz max. So technically, unless you are a pc gamer you probably never pplayed a game in 60fps till last gen at the earliest.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

why not both? 1080p and 60 fps?

These two things have so little to do with a game. I know for a fact my eyes have been buring at the end of sessions of games whether they are 20, 30, 45, 60, or 90fps. The one thing has has consistantly helped was higher resolution. This has been the first generation I have played games and not recieved major headaches, and terribly dry red eyes. This also applies to movies and TV as well. Prior to 1080p I could almost never watch anything without this issue, but since I have had much less issue. So far 4K seems to have totally solved the problem, but if I want to go back and watch something in 720p or less it is right back to headaches and red eyes. This is why I have issue with handhelds as well, after an hour or so my eyes are shot, in contrast I can look at my phone with a 1080p screen hours on end.

At the end of the day, however, I do not care if the game is 480p/15fps or 2160p/120fps. If it does not deliver a fun gameplay, a world I want to be in, and a great story then I will not waste my time with it. I have struggled through burning eyes and headaches before for games I enjoyed, and I will continue as long as good games come out, no matter the resolution/frame rate.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

1080p and stable framerate. 60fps only for my dose of gran turismo. Never felt really frustrated by latency, screen tearing, etc to care. But the eye candy from final fantasy and uncharted have made me forever captive. Isn't this a 10kth thread on the subject?

Which do you prefer and why?

I personally think 720p 60fps is better

I would rather have smoother gameplay than better looking textures...

But what says you? (Is that even English...)

You must have a very small TV.

On 55" and above, even 900p upscaled to 1080p looks odd.

it depoends on the game. something like cod is better with 60FPS but other games it's not so bad at 30.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet but the required power to double the fps is much larger than to go from 720p to 1080p. Going from 720p to 1080p on average only gives about a 30% performance hit. So the comparison is more like 540p 60 fps versus 1080p 30 fps.

Not to mention the cpu has to be able to match it aswell. If a game is more cpu heavy, for example a open world game like GTA V or AC Unity you can lower the resolution as much as you want but you will never reach 60 fps.

I am pretty sure I have a 17" TV,  does have HD though!

For SP, 1080p 30fps. For MP, whatever it takes to achieve 60fps.
