Forums - Nintendo Discussion - is the new 3ds XL worth the extra cash and wait over the 3ds?

If youre going to hardcore game, then choose the New 3DS.
If you are going to play 3DS games casually then the XL is fine.

3ds xl is a perfectly good system minus the face-tracking stuff. unless you're a xenoblade fan AND don't have the wii game or a wii u (since it'll probably be released in the virtual console eventually), there's currently no reason to upgrade.

i may never do it if nintendo doesn't buck up and release the smaller model. little f*ckers.

If you are not interested in playing Xenoblade, having Super Stable 3D, or the improved processing power, then no, it is not worth it. If you ARE interested in all of that and more, then yes it is worth the money, also Gamestop is having a deal where if you trade in your 3DS XL or PSV, you can get 100$ off the New 3DS XL.

i did not know that i do have a vita just collecting dust

Does anyone here have the new 3ds XL? I'd really like to know more about the speaker loudness and the quality of the 3d.

im in the same boat the 40$ isnt a big deal i just wanted to make sure its worth it.  so now i wonder about the screen quality and the 3d effects as the original 3ds really didnt do it for me when i saw it.

I say wait for the New 3DS. Outperforms the older model in every possible way.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

If you're already going to be spending at least $170, it's probably better to put in a bit more money and wait a bit to get the best possible version available. So I'd say wait it out and buy the N3DS.

I know what you mean. I'm thinking about upgrading to the new xl myself but I've seen some people complain about crosstalk on the 3ds xl. I'd be more enticed to buy one if I could get some positive feedback about that and the speakers loudness.

Based on some limited play time with the New 3DS XL (I'm in Australia), I personally think the New is a no-brainer, for the screen alone. It is essentially the same 3D effect as in the original, except that it is significantly more stable. I could really only 'break' the 3D effect by viewing from extreme angles. I used to use the 3D turned down and only on some games but I could see myself using this most of the time. Beyond that I didn't notice any other significant differences with the screen but I didn't do a side by side.

It's my brother's unit though so I haven't spent enough time with it yet to comment on the speaker quality.

Some other factors to consider are Amiibo/NFC, better battery and the exclusives that the New system will attract.

with all that said i bought a used 3ds(non XL) on ebay for 50$ and im going to trade it in to Gamestop for 75$ towards the New XL.
