Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Future of Kinect?

This has died a wii motion control fad like death. MS failed to see the market had gotten over it and tried to force it into next gen. That didn't last long and it was soon not made mandatory.

Has had terrible software support in it's first 14 months and not much on the way either.

Is this slipping away to be forgotten or will Microsoft try and get some decent software support out for it and try a revival?

Personally I don't think they've the first party man power to do enough by themselves and i don't see too many 3rd parties wanting to give time to it either.

They shouldn't have force it unto consumers. It was an unpopular add-on before that, and after the XBone reveal, it was despised even more. The tragic thing about it isthat, because Kineckt was going to be mandatory, therewere a couple developers working on kineckt related projects, but they abandoned those when the add-on was disbundled. So no support anyway. They should have followed Sony. How many PSMove titles are coming for PS4? Exactly.

Also, the wiimote hasn't really died. Almost all WiiU games that can use multiple controllers can use the wiimote. The thing is just to widespread to abandon.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The short answer is none. At least for gaming.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Kinect is finished. MS stopped talking about it, they are focused on advertising the $350 model, and they never even attempted to make it appealing to gamers, since they managed to release three and a half games for it in 15 months.

Once they finally get around to enabling voice commands through a headset, there will be no reason for keeping it plugged in even for those few that still use it for UI navigation.

i'm going to have to defer to the sex pistols on this...

i saw on DualShockers article about Phil want to create something bigger with Kinnect, probably they want to use the technology for AR or maybe they plan to follow SONY with VR, i am lazy to put the link just try to look on DualShockers if you curious.

You know your in MonHun mode when you read it as Kinsect =P

It's done in expect when they release the slim xbox it will come with a built in microphone array for voice commands and no cameras.

Should've been truly next gen and have something immersive like the illumiroom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhvrOkaDxAY

If it's too expensive, make it cheaper! Lol. Anyway, the Kinect is pretty much dead now unless they combine it with a VR or Illumiroom.

Only way Kinect can make a slight comeback is if it releases like 5 Disney/Frozen games, 5 dancing games, the best fitness application out there, etc. etc.

It's a gimmick and those tend to fade fairly quickly in the world of video games. I read something about MS trying to revamp it or something. I wonder how much it's already cost MS to develop and try to get everyone to buy into it at this point? My guess is that they'll try to use VR as a means to resurrect it.
