Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I the only one who doesn't care about achievements/trophies?

How do achievements influence gameplay for you?

They're a major selling point for me! 239 49.90%

I'll try to get lots of ... 56 11.69%

They're mostly good for ... 54 11.27%

I just ignore them for the most part. 89 18.58%

I wish games didn't have them. 40 8.35%

Total:478

Also, without achievements I could never brag about having done this:

Egocentric-system. I do not care and would rather not exist, in fact, only hinder me (windows and noise outside the game).

Fanatismo não leva a nada, apenas a colecionar antipatias.

Collection: Telejogo Ford-Philco, Dactar, TV Game 2600, Master System (2x), Master System Portable, NES, Dynavision 3, Mega Drive 3 (2x - Tectoy and Show Do Milhao Edition), Genesis 3, Genesis Arcade Motion, MD Play, SNES (2x), Super Famicom, Neo Geo CD, 3DO, Saturn, Playstation, Nintendo 64 (2x), Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Game Cube, Xbox, Zeebo, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 (Kinect Bundle), Wii (2x - White and Red), Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS Lite, 3DS, Vita, Wii U, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Around 800 games. Preferred Generation: 16 bits.

Achievements to me is like a permanent memory card save on your account of all your accomplishments. I like to keep track of which games I've beaten and whatnot. I won't get EVERY achievement/trophy in the game, just the ones that truly matter to completing the main game. Any other side-achievements are just extra stuff to do if I truly love the game.

Even the Wii U games have their own (hidden) achievement system; collecting stamps that each game offers.

"don't want to limit myself only to what the developers set for me"

Thats funny considering that on average a trophy hunter would have experienced more of the game than a non-trophy hunter... and if you are not limiting yourself to 'only' what the dev has set, then you should be getting most of the trophies in the games you play anyway... so you might as well call yourself a trophy hunter.

Theres little difference between two people who play the shit out of a game even if they make different claims about how much they care about the trophy that comes with it at the end.

Anyway, its trophy/achievement hunters that are in the minority, and probably always will be.

I used to not care for trophies, but going for some of them can be really fun and rewarding. Others are clearly there just busywork to pad out a game's play time, not worth messing with if you don't enjoy the game that much. I do wish you could delete the 0% completed games from a profile. Clicked on The Playroom once and now it,s forever on my list.

They never effect my purchasing habits at all. However I like to get them in games I like. I don't go for them if it's too much hassle or there are online ones usually (made an exception with TLoU because it was fun online). They're just a fun way to add life to the game once you're done with it and once I get a platinum it usually means I like the game so I'll keep it and go back for subsequent playthoughs on easy once I know I've beaten all the dev's challenges. Besides I've always been a collectible and difficulty guy anyway so they really haven't changed my playstyle that much other than the ones for killing enemies in specific ways which are somewhat entertaining in their own right.

I would say I like achievements. I'm no trophy hunter, not at all. But sometimes it just feels good to stumble upon a trophy not many players get for example. Sometimes, when I really love a game I even collect all trophies and really enjoy it. Dragon's Dogma or Transistor were such games, where it just felt great to show some extra 'love' to your favourite games, by collecting everything.
Sometimes, when playing on my 3DS I miss such things, but it's also okay without them. Let's put it that way: it's not necessary, but it's nice to have them sometimes.

No you're not the only one. I actually dislike the concept and wish they were never implemented.

I have 10 platinums but they're only on games easy enough or if I really enjoy the game.  Getting the platinums for most games, even those take some of  the enjoyment I have if I was to just play the game regularly.

Something similar to achievements contributed keeping me trapped in FarmVille, so now not only I mostly don't care, but I consider them EVIL too!

Used to be crazy about getting them, but not anymore.
