A hardware revision(in the same eraser case) of some sort is more likely than a slim this year.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I agree. Just put the cheaper chips in there and maybe cheeper cooling. Less R&D cost and still decent savings

Wait another year to make it slimline to get that extra marketing push as well as potential re-buys

Would the cost of these chips from Samsung cost more or the same as the current configuration? I have to believe that Sony would like to bring out a slim only when the cost benefits them. No one is complaining about the size of the PS4 makes no sense to rush this because of the cost involved, when the original design continues to sell well.

We're not likely going to see a PS4 slim this year. However, the recent mass production of these 8-gigabit (or 1 GB) GDDR5 chips will lead to an internal revision. The PS4 will still look the same, but instead of having 16 4-gigabit (or 512 MB) chips, the motherboard will have 8 of the new ones.

This along with possibly a cheaper cooling system can make way towards a $100 pricecut with the hardware still being sold with a profit or at worst, a negligable loss.

COULD A PS4 SLIM BE ON THE WAY?

Samsung EVP says memory chips are 'best solution available for games consoles'; hints at a possible new slimline PlayStation system.

The PS4 Slim may soon be a reality, as Samsung today announced that it has begun mass-producing the industry’s first 8 gigabit (1GB) GDDR5 DRAM memory chips.

Rumours that the memory may be included in an upcoming gaming system were fuelled by Joo Sun Choi, executive vice president of memory sales and marketing, stating that: "We expect that our 8Gb GDDR5 will provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with the best graphics memory solution available for game consoles as well as general use notebook PCs." Furthermore, Samsung's press release stated that the chips are designed for use in "on-board graphics memory for game consoles".

Although these comments could have related to any number of systems, a new PS4 model seems to stack up due to the fact that Sony's console already uses 16 512MB GDDR5 chips from Samsung. Switching to eight 1GB chips would lead to obvious space and cost savings, which Samsung itself confirmed: "Combining only eight of the new 8Gb chips will achieve the same density as the 8 gigabytes (GB) needed in the latest game consoles."

With the PS4 being the only console to make use of GDDR5, Samsung's hint was received loud and clear, with forums and social media already buzzing with speculation.

What do you think of this news? Would you look forward to seeing the release of a PS4 Slim?

It would be very easy to reduce the size of all the consoles. Frankly their power to size ratio is way off and if you made new models today, they would be half the size.

I don't think there will be a Slim Model until 2016. An internal hardware revision followed by a price drop is more likely this year.

Lol, we're not going to get a smaller design just because the number of RAM chips is halved. They barely take much space as it is. The current PS4 will be a long lasting design and there's nothing wrong with it as it is now.

/thread.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I don't see one for at least another 2 years. The PS4 is turning a profit and is selling great. Not to mention already considerably smaller than the Xbox One.

What would they do with the power brick though, move it back outside?
