A lot of people using their own incompetence as some form of denial is just plain sad.

As much as I like the metal gear solid games, the story telling tends to be the worst part of them. Not because the story isn't interesting, but because Kojima just rapes the ever loving shit out of us with exposition, it's like brevity kicked his dog and raped his mother or something.
never played any souls game. and after reading it, i totally agree!
it kinda reminds me metroid games, where you can stop and read the logs of metroid creating steps.
Also, i think the best tutorial of all games is kind of like this. In super metroid, we see the alien rabbits in the middle of the game jumping on de walls, you hav to explore the area and pay atenction to the enviroment to realise, and also you have to realise that you have to copy their moves. also for the alien ostrich.(but now i dont remember if it was mandatory for finishing the game or not...)
OP should seriously consider playing the Metroid Prime games.
I really like the method of indirect story telling by Dark Souls, I like how much discussion it promotes in the real world about the game and it's lore. I've spent so much time talking to my friends about it, probably just as much time as playing the game itself. I can understand it's not for everybody but I really enjoyed it.

It was extremely light and it wasn't the focus of the game. It wasn't the story that kept people playing. It was the gameplay, atmosphere, difficulty, gamer euphoria and pvp of the game that kept people playing it. It's like you're saying a flat chested woman has big boobs. It just isn't true. |
Story TELLING, not STORY simply. There's a world of difference there.
Whatever you take away from the story of a Souls game depends largely on what you put into it. The game doesn't hold your hand on "Look at this and look at that and this shit is important and that shit is important and have a diary where it's all neatly laid out". It lets you draw your own conclusions from exploring the world, paying attention to the very subtle dialogues and whatever it decides to hide in the environment.
That is, by all accounts, the quintessence of story telling through interaction and not exposition. You could play the whole damn thing and not take away a SINGLE thing from it...but it'd just be a damn shame.

I think it's the best way to tell a story in a game. Too bad Dark Souls is super hard, I don't like those kind of games.

I prefer when the story is integrated into the game instead of just being something you make up out of item descriptions. Its cool, and the interwoven nature of gameplay and story can be really interesting, but best story telling in gaming?
Sorry, but I disagree...
