Back in 2009,I logged into VG Chartz for what I figured would be my last time. I had grown tired of all of the in-fighting, to be honest. But I figured now was as good a time as ever to drop back in and see what's new around here. I don't know if I'll stick around, of course, but we'll see.
I stand in an interesting position, as it transpires, of having returned close to the same equivalent time as when I first joined this site relative to the generation going on at the time. Late 2007, there was much debate over who was going to dominate last gen. Wild predictions flew about. Every time a console had a good reported month there would be cheers from the supporters and hate from the naysayers. It was kind of exciting, in a way. But it was so easy to get wrapped up in the numbers back then and forget what really counted: that you were having fun playing the games that were on your console(s) of choice. I think even I got lost a bit and forgot some of that at the time, and I regret that.
This new generation has been different for me, though. I don't really care about the sales numbers any longer. And it's working out nicely for me! I finally picked up a PS3 recently to play the various Tales games I missed on it last gen, I've got a lovely 3DS I've had since 2012 that's loaded with games I love, and I have a fantastic Wii U I picked up around a year ago which already has a solid library of fantastic titles. Overall I'm quite happy so far. Occasionally I do still slip back into that dark mentality of the heyday of last gen, wondering why the PS4 and XBOne sell as well as they do, but I quickly remind myself that it doesn't really matter. I've chosen the right systems for myself, and who am I to begrudge, belittle, or besmirch those who forged a different path to the same goal of having fun?
So hello once more, VG Chartz. It's been a long time since we last met, but I hope that whatever else you're doing these days, having fun with your gaming system(s) of choice is high on the priority list. Let's enjoy!
