Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Wii U sold almost 600k in US with Nintendo not trying hard...

I still think they should market it more.

I think if price is lower the wiiu could easily outsell the x1 @400$ price point.

In the US??

ww it did for most of the summer, in europe and japan for almost all of it post mk8 and in the us for a while too. the xbone could not sell at $499 beyond the initial wave of early adopters. it could not even sell at $399. and microsoft saw it crashing with their little trial balloon promotion's-over nonsense, and lowered the price indefinitely (which means forever, until they lower it again for the holidays to $299 because even at $349 it fails to gain any market share in what is ostensibly its best market, the us, against the ps4).

OT, tho: i think wii u could easily have done 2-2.5m ww over the holidays with proper promotion and a price cut even to $249. i don't even think an aggressive bundle would be necessary. at $249 it hits that wii impulse-buy sweet spot that it needs to hit eventually this year to capitalize on all the great software that's coming.

I actually made a thread about this misconception but ioi closed it then a mod made a jab about it being useless news. Evidently it should have stayed open to inform people. Those months quickly dwindled after WiiU adjustments came in, down to a matter of weeks.

The thread is US not WW, and XB1 was at its lowest whilst WiiU just had MK.

I wish people would stop saying that Nintendo needs to sell this or that much when Nintendo is perfectly capable of giving themselves a goal to reach which they do every end of March. If anything, Wii U is well on it's way to sell it's annual goal of 3.6 million units. Only a few hundred thousand now and they got weeks to do that. Hopefully their sales still keep going strong enough, but they got much more chance of reaching their goal now thanks to fantastic sales during the holidays.

PS4 and XB1 sales would have simply flipflopped. WiiU has never come close to beating XB1 since it launched, throughout all it's various price points it's had.

I think you're wrong: http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41791/USA/

Globally, in that week, the picture is Wii U winning by ~90k.

i didn't say us exclusively, the first two letters in my post are in fact two w's. and throughout late may and part of june, it did outsell the xbox one in the us. this is not a misconception. it also outsold it for longer in europe... this, too, is not a misconception. anyway, it's at $150 less with two free aaa games and it still can't gain any market share against ps4 in its best (and, besides the humble little island of britain, really only good) market... this is not exactly a tour de force, seece. whether you can recognize that or not doesn't change the fact that it's not.

http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41805/Global/

for the rest of june they were almost at parity, within 10k of one another.

They are, did you check the title tho? WW is irrelevent to the discussion.

I'll give you WiiU outsold XB1 in the US for MK week (I was talking monthly) and a week or so after, beyond that tho, never. And MK is to WiiU what Halo (5) is to XB1. It's not a small game, and it came during a big lul for XB1. We have little data for Europe so agree to disagree.

What has the rest of your post got to do with anything? It has taken marketshare from PS4 this holiday, without the cuts it would have lost in the US by hundreds of thousands and the gap would be 1.5m now instead of 500k.

You're deflecting from the actual topic.

Again, check the title, big fat US in it. I'm also talking monthly (as it is NPD). WiiU has never beaten XB1 in any month in the US and never will.

"The Wi U looked to do even worse in the US 2014 holiday then 2013"

No, it didn't, and that's not what people predicted.

Having Smash and Mario Kart alone is better than holiday 2013.

And somehow not having a Smash bundle stopped people that .... wanted Smash ... from buying Smash (and a WiiU)?

for the rest of june AND july they were almost at parity, within 10k of one another, with the gap sometimes being as little as 1k.

anyway, point is wii u can sell with the proper software, even at an unfriendly price. at $249/€229 it'll destroy xbone in germany, france, etc. and do respectably in the us, as well as extend its 1m+ lead over the ps4 in japan.
