This thread will be focused on the 2016 election cycle for the United States, specifically the presidential race.  This will be an ongoing thread that people can post news on the candidates as well as debate fellow members on the merits of the ideas of candidates.  That being said, all debates and arguments must remain civil so keep your comments in line with the forum rules.

So please, keep the vitriol down.  Politics come with strong opinions and emotions, I know, but we have to keep our discussions civilized here.  Please refrain from using overly negative descriptions of candidates that may cause other people that support those candidates to get upset.  It is fine to have a strong opinion here, just keep it civil.

Right now, all the major candidates are in or are about to be in the primary phase of the campaign.  This is when candidates start attacking each other and positioning themselves as the one that best represents the party.  Basically, this is where all the fodder comes from for the general...

Isn't it a bit early for this thread? Things only get interesting a few months before the election.

True, but the idea behind this thread is to keep the whole process including the primaries centrally located instead of having various threads pop up throughout the year.  Since we are going to start having candidates officially launch their campaigns in the next couple months I started the thread now.  However, like you said, it will admittedly be pretty slow for most of the year, probably won't pick up til next year...

Has Scott Walker said anything about his position on marijuana legalization? That picture makes me think he is very, very, very pro-pot.

You forgot the HP CEO on the Republican front, forgot her name.

Carly fiorina, and I didn't forget as much as just didn't include her.  I will definitely put her in if she launches a campaign, I just think it is unlikely she actually runs.  I just included the people I think are most likely to run.
