Every other month we get leaks from Gaf, splitting up NPD sales of certain games into bundled and unbundled and now you're trying to tell me that NPD doesn't count bundled games? Seriously?

Nope, NPD doesn't count bundled software in their numbers. You can go to gaf and get leaks about numbers if you want but NPD Group does not count them.

NPD does count them, otherwise the leakers wouldn't have anything to leak, they apparently just don't count them in the top 10. But I already edited my previous post, the X1 sold more software even without the bundles, I was wrong.

No worries

Lol smart business move, increase the price to $399 for 8 days, fuck up those couple hundred thosand who bought it during then by decreasing the price days later

Every retailer in the US offers price matching within at least 14 days of purchase.

Anyone who doesn't receive the difference back didn't try to get it back.

It's also unethical, increasing a price just so days later you can decrease it and call it a price offer, when 350 is the base price pretty much now

I don't think they did that on purpose...and it certainly isn't "unethical". Baby stomping is unethical. This certainly does not qualify!

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Correct. Sega makes profit. MS's Xbox branch doesn't. They could easily cut it off.

Xbox is shown to be a pretty integral cog in MS' business plan for the future with Windows.

I doubt they'd just "easily cut if off."

How is it unethical?  I don't think you know the definition of ethics or what constitutes ethical.

Its roughly the same as selling something full price the day before it goes onsale at a lower price.  There isn't anything unethical about it.  It's business.

If a guy comes into my store at 9:00 AM and I have a large inventory of blueberry muffins and charge him full price, yet offer the person who comes in at noon a discounted price because the amount of sales in the morning weren't what I anticipated, there isn't anything unethical about it.  Not even if the following day I realize that at the lower price I'm assured that I sell more muffins and that same early morning customer comes back and buys another muffin at the lower price.

Business is about supply and demand.  Simply.  Basic.  Economics.

Looks like software domination to me

While the ** states it does not include sales included with hardware bundles the disclaimer at the bottom does not state that.

The issue of not including software sales bundled with hardware might only account for the Top 10.

Personally I haven't a clue if they do or don't, but what you just posted makes it seem to be the way I just percieved it.

*My post has nothing to do with your argument about who sold more software overall, just the issue of whether NPD ultimately tracks software bundled with hardware.

I find it kinda silly that there are calling it a "promotion", as if the price is going to go back up at some point, I highly doubt that that is going to happen.

Why would they count bundled for everything except the top 10? Makes no sense.

This is a really interesting move. So what about the rest of the world in Europe and the UK the Xbox one now looks grossly overpriced in comparison.

Can we expect a promotion here too or do they literally only care about US now ?

Not sure if they would bring it to the UK.  They already cut quite a bit there, only difference is SCEE matched them on price, where SCEA didn't, and have continued to outsell them since.

Yea, I think so, too.  This sudden reversal (or 180 ) on the price rise is very telling.  Seems sales dropped quite a bit since the rise.  I think Amazon makes it seem not so far apart, but that is only because Amazon has had it $15-$20 cheaper than anywhere else, so if you're going to buy one online they are the place to get it.

I'm also wondering if this will make a difference in the PS4 winning the following 9-10 months.  As in, will the XBO sales pick up enough on the slower months to pass the PS4, especially with all the exclusives coming out for the PS4 in the next few months, or will it follow a sales pattern closer to the Wii in its later years.  Sell ok during the first 9-10 months, but have really great sales during the holiday season.

noticed on the online trakers ps4 was close or ahead of xb1 after the 25th even though some retailers had xb1 at 330 vs 400 or 350 vs 400 leading me to believe that the high sales were more of a holiday thing or for consumers a buy cheap sell for high thing

i think it will make a diffrence in that sales will be closer to the ps4 in these 9 months more than last yr but wont have a better holiday if they dont go below 300 this yr im also skeptical on it passing the ps4 in US i dont see it happening ps4 will have a much better lineup compared to 2014 and a possible price cut imo its the ps4s holiday to lose

I don't see them passing PS4, either.  Not only is Sony currently growing the gap, again, but my guess is that Sony is going to be announcing their own cut to $349 in the coming months, most likely around E3.  And I doubt MS is going to drop the price even further.  Not unless they want even more losses.

Marketing. Call it a promotion and more people will likely jump at it as they might think it is temporary.

I wonder if the 1/3 week is the new baseline (1:1 in US/2:1 WW) or if the bulk buyers are about to bite the bullet for attempting to take advantage of buyers and the price drop. It's hard to tell, because these are usually the slower months, most of the big titles for Q1 and Q2 are primarily on PS4, and the you could get an X1 for $300-$320 during the holidays. I, for one, really like the idea of scalpers having to price match last week's sales.
