You are forgetting that they aren't just saving 50 cents by excluding it, they also make a few dollars for selling them separately.

They also aren't "just saving 50 cents" by not including it because people aren't taking a number of factors aside from just the physical product itself into consideration.

Ultimately, it helps those who have their charger already while not actually negatively impacting those who want a charger as well (stores will be sure to point people in the direction of the charger).  It is a change in how a consumer is expected to pick up the product sure, but it isn't this malicious attack on the public that so many are making it out to be.  Is it going to be more profitable for them?  Absolutely.  Is it wrong of them to want more profits?  No.

Imagine if Xbox consoles were sold without the power supply and you have to buy them separatedly. :P

PS4 uses the same power plug as the PS3 and that used the same on I had on my PS2. It even have the same cord for PS1!

Who didn't have a PS1, PS2 or PS3 at some point? Sony should just sell PS4s without power cables since people should already have one lying around somewhere.

Well, Nintendo can always not include a stylus either because it's probable that people already have too many of those!

Nintendo should start seling 3DS do-it yourself kits. You buy it it and put it all together yourself! They would save on manufacturing costs.

Honestly though, I wonder how people would react if the next iPhone came without a lightning adapter cable.

Why is picking up a charger from the store you are buying the New 3DS from such a big deal?!

This is being blown way out of proportion

The article itself does not blow it out of proportion, but tells as it is: "I also recommend that Nintendo put AC adapters in the box when it releases the NN3DS XL, but their failure to do so is not a deal breaker (though it is annoying)."

Not a deal breaker, but a bit annoying is exactly what I would say about this. Interesting enough though, that nobody cares about the real problem - that the charger is propietary.

But there are 3ds party chargers for 3DS. I have one.

Here is one for less than $5 http://www.amazon.com/3DS-XL-2DS-DSi-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B008MIGV1E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1421341748&sr=8-5&keywords=3ds+charger

You meant 3rd-party charger probably. Anyways, I know, but it doesn't change much. It is annoying that it isn't included, but not the big deal. And I would get my fourth charger with the New 3DS ambassador edition I will get the next days.

There is a little bit of a price difference between the PS4 and XBoxOne power cables which have huge power packs included and a charger for a couple £ you can get from any game store.

It is a bit of a pain, but is the same true in Europe?

My store of choice of is often Game.co.uk and they have a nice new 3DS banner and this is the page for the white 3DS (which I may well get)

http://www.game.co.uk/en/the-new-nintendo-3ds-white-323707?pageSize=20&categoryIdentifier=819710&catGroupId=

No mention of an AC adaptor or not.

You have to go to the official Nintendo UK store and scroll down to see this

"Please note that the New Nintendo 3DS XL consoles do not come with a charger as standard. Adapters provided with the Nintendo 3DS, 2DS, DSi and DSi XL systems are compatible."

Note that I'm on the page for the new Nintendo 3DS....

Then if you do want a charger, you have to spend £20 from them and get it with a cradle. As a potential first time DS buyer, this does disappoint me, even if it doesn't surprise me

£20? You can get a 3ds party one for less than £5. I have a couple as backups for travelling and stuff.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8-Charger-Nintendo-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B0026LY9XK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421341870&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+xl+charger

And here is one for even cheaper on the Game.co.uk website http://www.game.co.uk/en/gameware-nintendo-3ds-xl-ac-adaptor-201780?pageSize=20&searchTerm=3ds%20charger&catGroupId=

That £20 is the price you have to pay from the official Nintendo store. I get that you can get them cheap, but personally I'd really prefer a 1st party one, don't really know why especially as I use any old usb cable to charge my phone...

My main point was that it has not been communicated clearly and can be confusing for first time buyers like myself

Not an equivalent comparison. It would be equivalent if the 3DS simply didn't come with a battery.

If god forbid that 3rd party adapter causes an issue with your 3DS your warranty won't cover the repair charge. Although honestly I don't see how they would know.

Well the price point of the console itself would be £20 more expensive if they included the charger, so i dont see what you are moaning about?

They are doing it to give you options, rather than tying you in to having to get that specific charger. It gives you the option to save a little bit of dolla

Have been using 3rd party chargers on all my DS's for years and never had a single problem. Nothing would happen.

You are cluching at straws to keep hating them for this

My comparison was more aimed towards Nintendo, not the XBox One, since PS4s cable being excluded can carry a similar excuse to what Nintendo is giving., although Sony would be a bit easier to swallow since figure-8 power cords are not propietary and actually quite common.
