Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo's AC Adapter Policy Isn't Fair - Kotaku

Since you can find a charger for less than $10 easily, I don't think it's a big deal as long as the consumer knows beforehand they need one if they don't already have it. What's a bigger issue to me is not having the option to purchase the non-XL New 3DS in North America. I really hope they remedy that in the future. The price difference is more than a $10 charger, and I was looking forward to the customizable faceplates.

That is really strange, as the New 3DS has with the faceplates a features the XL is missing. Doesn't Nintendo want to make money buy releasing a new faceplate-design every week?

How about not including the battery as well? It probably uses the same battery as the original and not including that would actually save Nintendo a decent amount of money, unlike the $0.50 for the charger.

It doesn't use the same battery.

Also, the charger coming separately is nowhere near as egregious as the Vita's proprietary memory card nonsense. $40 for 16gb?! And it was originally $60?!?! I love my Vita for the bastard child it is, but not THAT much. Thank goodness for Black Friday sales.

You are not getting it. It not about the price of the adapter. Its about is properitory adapter system. None complained if it was using micro USB. And its Nintendos attitude. Some comments at kotaku said, Nintendo is nickel and diming its consomers. After reading the article I also agree with this comment.

It's always, always lame when a company doesn't give you everything you need to play out of the box. I don't care which company it is, it bugs me. It's not even really me, I can deal with it just fine, but a lot of kids won't know and a lot of parents won't know.

Yeah, I know $.50 times a few million is a lot of money but come on.

Actually most consoles (sans the bundles) are not coming with a game, that is needed to play with said console.

I agree it is annoying, but it isn't world shattering bad and definitely not a deal breaker. This would be even less a problem, if Nintendo didn't do a stupid propietary charger but used one of the USB-standards.

It is a bit of a pain, but is the same true in Europe?

My store of choice of is often Game.co.uk and they have a nice new 3DS banner and this is the page for the white 3DS (which I may well get)

http://www.game.co.uk/en/the-new-nintendo-3ds-white-323707?pageSize=20&categoryIdentifier=819710&catGroupId=

No mention of an AC adaptor or not.

You have to go to the official Nintendo UK store and scroll down to see this

"Please note that the New Nintendo 3DS XL consoles do not come with a charger as standard. Adapters provided with the Nintendo 3DS, 2DS, DSi and DSi XL systems are compatible."

Note that I'm on the page for the new Nintendo 3DS....

Then if you do want a charger, you have to spend £20 from them and get it with a cradle. As a potential first time DS buyer, this does disappoint me, even if it doesn't surprise me

I guess Nintendo is Playing with Power.

i loled.

anyways,. the biggest bit here (to me) is that the adaptor is like a 50 cent inclusion.   it would barely impact nintendo's bottom line but and server to infuriate customers who feel nickeled and dimed and mislead.

i get it when a computer requires the monotor to be sold seperately,.. it is expensive and there are lots of options to buy.   but every fucking computer i've ever bought has come with a power cable.  yes i have a few around the house and i still expect the require components to be included.  i got a sony sound bar for my father in law this xmas and it came with a digital audio cable and hdmi cable like any reasonable human would expect.

in the end these stupid shananigans devalues the nintendo brand image and costs them more in the long run than the 50 fucking cents they made in its exclusion.

Why is picking up a charger from the store you are buying the New 3DS from such a big deal?!

This is being blown way out of proportion

The article itself does not blow it out of proportion, but tells as it is: "I also recommend that Nintendo put AC adapters in the box when it releases the NN3DS XL, but their failure to do so is not a deal breaker (though it is annoying)."

Not a deal breaker, but a bit annoying is exactly what I would say about this. Interesting enough though, that nobody cares about the real problem - that the charger is propietary.

But there are 3ds party chargers for 3DS. I have one.

Here is one for less than $5 http://www.amazon.com/3DS-XL-2DS-DSi-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B008MIGV1E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1421341748&sr=8-5&keywords=3ds+charger

Imagine if Xbox consoles were sold without the power supply and you have to buy them separatedly. :P

PS4 uses the same power plug as the PS3 and that used the same on I had on my PS2. It even have the same cord for PS1!

Who didn't have a PS1, PS2 or PS3 at some point? Sony should just sell PS4s without power cables since people should already have one lying around somewhere.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Well, Nintendo can always not include a stylus either because it's probable that people already have too many of those!

£20? You can get a 3ds party one for less than £5. I have a couple as backups for travelling and stuff.
