Forums - Sony Discussion - Naughty Dog won't push Uncharted 4 to 60fps if it compromises player experience

Talking in the latest issue of EDGE, Straley confirmed that the team locked Uncharted 4's frame rate at 30fps for last month's demo, but revealed that the game is actually running "above 30" frames per second.

"We're actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo], Straley explained. "We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.'"

EDGE states that a debug station visible on the floor showed that the game was running at 37fps.

60 Frames Per Second is a much better trade off then what could happen in my opinion.

Totally agree with them. FPS is not everything.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

37 fps about a year from launch? That's pretty great.

I'd take both obviously, but 60 would be sweet.

Let the FPS wars begin!

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Hell it could be 10fps as long as I get my 1080p

Pathetic

60fps would be nice, but a smoth 30 fps is good enough for these games as Uncharted 1-3 showed and if they are already hitting well beyong 30 fps in this that hopefully means it is 100% sustainable throughout the game, although the stage might not have been the most demanding on the hardware.

For perfect 60fps they need to be at ~70fps throughout all of the game aswell, so pretty much double than what they are doing now - might be impossible to achieve with the current quality.

good! uncharted 2 and 3 pushed the limits technically, and i want to see more of that, i want to see more epic set pieces, i want more complexity in the levels and how they effect the gameplay. this is awesome news to hear, hope it ends up locked 30fps and they push the game as hard as they can.

I've been saying for months that the final game is much more likely to be a high variable than a locked 60fps. A variable gives them the freedom they need to maintain the action, set-pieces and detail the series is famous for, while also providing the smoother experience they seem to want to provide. I'd personally rather they simply targeted 30fps and went nuts with the set-pieces, but if they really feel it will benefit more from a higher frame-rate then i'm at least happy to know they don't see it as an all or nothing target.

Also, 37fps already? That's pretty impressive.
