Red Dead Redemption-westerens. Kinda off the video game path, but I used to hate everything with western. But with RDR opened my eyes to them. God of War with hack n slash. Dust ET with Metrovania.
killzone 2 was the first fps i enjoyed. i've played a lot of fps games since.
Off the top of my head:
Dust: An Elysian Tail(XBLA)-Metroidvania
Castle Crashers (XBLA)-Beat 'em up RPG
Halo (Xbox)-FPS
Fable: The Lost Chapters (Xbox)-WRPG
Gran Turismo 2(PlayStation)-Racing
Final Fantasy 7(PlayStation)-JRPG
Tekken (PlayStation)-Fighting
Gunstar Heroes (Sega Genesis)-Shoot 'em up
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Sega Genesis)-Beat 'em up
Warsong/Langrisser: The Descendants of Light (Sega Genesis)-SRPG
Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System)-Platformer

Ahh man... I had this friend that always seemed to play those weird games. Warsong, Dark Wizard (SegaCD) and Ogre Battle. He told me to borrow his copy of Shining Force and shortly after that I went on playing Dark Wizard and King's Bounty on Genesis.
Not really...closest things are that Crash Bandicoot got me more into platforming, and Gran Turismo got me more seriously into driving games.
I can't remember what got me into shooters, whether it was something like Medal of Honor, or maybe even Halo CE, but certainly I wasn't hooked on online play till Call of Duty 4, and Oblivion got me into RPGs...both multiplats obviously.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -> FPS games.
Final Fantasy X -> JRPGs.
