Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No Charger Included!? Seriously!?

they are giving the choice.
Of course im assuming that the shelfs beside N3DS will be crowded of chargers.
Then if you need a charger, you buy, if you dont, you wont.
you are not oblied to buy something you don need.

most shops are already including the charger for free, nintendo store included.

But hey any company is free to do whatever they like and I am sure they are making lots of money from selling chargers separates... Good.

Switch!!!

I think it's stupid to not include a charger. I gave my small 3DS to my girlfriend so she can play some Mario Kart and Smash and then realized I only had one charger and had to buy another one. It was annoying but honestly it's not that big of a deal. Some people in this thread act like this is outrageous but really, all you have to do is purchase an adapter. It's really easy. No reason reason to play the victim card. It's stupid but it's not a big deal.

Well that's dumb. I don't give a damn if I already have a charger laying around not everybody does. This is inexcusable.

They are thinking $199 looks a lot better than $219 (or however much the charger costs their)
Plus they are saving money of current owners of one so really its best for the consumer.
Is it that hard to grab a charger too if you need it??

Chargers do not coat Nintendo 19$... I would be surprised if they are above 1$ each at the rate they build them!

Now selling it for 20$ means it's very likely to be a high margin component (like all cables and accessories really) you have your reason right there.

Now, I don't care for handhelds anyway, no matter who make them, I just don't play on small screens, phones/tablets, gameboys, etc. I tried them all and none ever took to me... but this just strike me as a greedy move.

People should stop being so apathetic of this. If this was Sony, they would get blown out of the water with so much hate they'd have to discontinue the console within the month. Not everyone who owns their old console, especially when the next version is backwards compatible, wants to keep the previous version. Selling the previous version on Ebay without a charger will degrade the value on a massive level or I can include one and have the time and money wasted to buy a new one.

They're not saving people money as people like to put it. Unless you're going to keep an unused 3DS lying around, you're losing money regardless how you want to spin it.

I think the rage is proportional to the "hidden" cost you pay. On Vita, a memory card can be quite expensive so it pisses people off. The 3DS charger is cheap so most people don't care (not saying it's a good thing). When I bought my Gamecube I also had to buy a seperate memoy card that - I'm pretty sure - cost €14.99 and was so small you could barely fit 3 files of save data on it but I didn't mind because the cost was relatively low. I think the PS2 also came without a memory card. And I'm 100% certain when people complain about the Vita memory cards they complain about the *price* and not the fact that you need one.

Not saying this makes logical sense but observing this gives me the hunch the deciding factor here is the pricepoint and not how essential the periferal is to play the system.

How is this being defended? *facepalm*

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Does it say clearly on the box that it doesn't include a charger? If not I'd lose my shit over this. If it does Its still a cheap move.

This is easily my favorite thread of the month.

I have a 3DS XL and have no intention of selling it in order to reduce the cost of the N3DSXL upgrade. Therefore, for me, this move is fine. I don't have to worry about buying a charger or having an additional one I don't need.

For those that don't already have a charger, the box is clearly labeled. This means they should notice that and buy a charger at the time they purchase the system.

Those that think a box redesign/resize, the shipping weight increase, the production time increase, and extra time spent QAing the product to make sure it is fully functional is "pennies" for Nintendo don't understand how manufacturing and shipping works, that's fine.

This is the exact same thing as a toy coming with the "batteries not included" tag. Backlash is expressed and expected because the consumer has to change the way they approach the purchase. Ultimately, you are going to be paying the same amount for the system and a charger in two separate boxes as you would've for the system and charger in one. Unless of course you buy the charger from someplace like Amazon, at which point it is actually a cheaper entry point for you.

The fact that Nintendo is being upfront about this change is a good thing. Imagine how people would've reacted if they didn't know this a month in advance?

The console cannot function without the power charger. It should be in the box when you buy the console.

I mean... how would you feel if you buy a PS4 and it comes without the power cord, or an Xbone without the power brick?
