Forums - Politics Discussion - If Greece was kicked out of the EU, would that save the dying Euro?

I remember it being as much as 20-30 cents more than what it is now above the Dollar.

They say once it drops below 1.20/ 1.00 it won't stop for a while.

Is it time to take real action against countries that just cannot make the cut?

as long as oil is cheap a weak euro isnt that bad. other countrys have to invest a lot more to weaken their currencys. greece had never a chance, noone wanted to help em, its just a stealth bank rescue.

Save Greece, save the Euro. The Euro's present problem is deflation, it's devaluing externally due to economic problems, but internally it's also threatening to deflate, a rare double-whammy, and one which could be fixed if the damn CDU took their boot off of Draghi's throat and let him run unlimited bond-buying.

the deflation is no real problem atm, its mostly because of droppedd oilprice, thats the good kind of deflation.

in some countrys like greece its realy heavy with the deflation, but thats fine 2, the prices where just a joke for some basic food products, you paid 3 times more for a liter of milk in greece than in germany, and the people will not stop spending because of deflation, they have less money anyway so the dropping prices are fine.  and bond buying is the most stupid idea ever, the ecb should directly lend money to an EU fond, or just give some money, create money out of thin air, thats how you get some inflation.  and we need real money for the rebuilding of the pigs. best way of creating inflation would be a massiv solar programm for spain, portugal and greece with fresh money directly from the ecb. that would create inflation NOW and stop inflation later(because those countrys need a lot of oil and gas and could reduce those needs with solar, and it would decrease the imports in the long run)

It would actually kill it. If any country leaves the common currency, the markets will start speculating who's going to be next.

well the ecb could make alot of money if they start a bond purchase programm when the markets are starting speculating...   but there is no reason for greece to leave the euro after a default. there is no rule in the ecb code for that.

Different countries have different economies that need different currencies.

Fuck the Euro and I hope it dies.

There's also another, far more serious reason to prevent Greece from leaving the Euro. What if we do leave the Eurozone, and after a short period (4-5 years) we see tremendous growth (in the 5-10% yearly)? Italy, Portugal, Spain, and other countries could start considering joining us.

so when the euro was introduced with a referance value of 1/1.17 against the dollar back in 2002, was the dollar dying up until recently?

The Euro is dying since it was introduced, yet somehow it is still around. Kinda like consoles. And PCs. And Nintendo...

Different countries can work fine with the same currency. I think the problem the Euro had was it expanded way too fast. If they had done it very slowly with only the main European economies for a long time and then eventually and some other countries when they have caught up a bit.

I agree that different countries can work fine with the same currency if they have similar economies.

I just think that countries need to be responsible for their own currencies and the European Union should be a free trade union and nothing more.
