Forums - Gaming Discussion - Core Nintendo fans are to blame for the Wii U situation

TLDR: Nintendo fans won't allow Nintendo to create new IP's and ignore 3rd party on Nintendo consoles.

We all know that the Wii U has been a failure by Nintendo sale standards. With that said, many blame Nintendo for this issue. I mean, who else is to blame? The droughts seem to be endless & the marketing is piss poor.

I personally think that is just an excuse. The people who care about video games (even just a little) know what a Wii U is. This is a big market that is simply ignoring it. The droughts are because of the lack of 3rd party support which is both Nintendo's & the fan bases fault.

losing 3rd party is Nintendo's fault because they decided to release a weaker system as well as a funky controller. This makes it difficult to port things over. They are basically asking 3rd parties to use extra time and money in order to make it Wii U friendly. Some Nintendo fans don't want to buy a 3rd party game because they believe anything other than Nintendo isn't quality enough to deserve their money. As for the ones who do buy 3rd party? Many would rather buy them for one of the other systems / PC because of the graphics increase. So, really, both are to blame here.

Now, another big issue with Nintendo that I've noticed by buying a PS is the lack of new IP's. Sure, they have a decent amount of new eShop IP's but they will go unnoticed on store shelves and will never be seen by the average non-Wii U gamer. They need new IP's that will get public attention. So, why doesn't Nintendo make too many new IP's? The core Nintendo fans won't let them. Every year fans ask them about the next Mario, or Zelda, or Metroid and so on. Retro for example, should be making a new IP but you know as well as I do that if Metroid isn't shown, fans will be disappointed. Fans don't want a new IP, they'd rather take a new entry in a comfortable series. This is fine but is hurting Nintendo's chances in bringing in new fans.

Very well said. if more people bought a ps4 like you it would open their eyes big time.

Something...Something...Games...Something

makes sense

Makes sense and that it a vicious cycle now, hard to go back to the once great Nintendo consoles (NES AND SNES)...

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

How many million of "core ninty fans", ones that follow gaming, actually are there?

Because I honestly feel like a very small minority. 3 of 6 retail games are 3rd party ( 1 of the 1st party is Hyrule Warrios and that's just published by N), and 3 of 5 digital games are 3rd party/indie in my collection.

Very sad. But I don't think the "core" ones are the ones to blame. It's NINTENDO'S FAULT for letting this situation of the core market not on the Nintendo consoles happen, and the Nintendo image being largely negative in eyes of most of the core market of teens- adults in 20's, 30's.

so many things wrong i dont even know where to start..

update coming soon..

A couple of the 3rd party has sold decent numbers.ZombiU has almost reached the million, not bad for a new IP on small userbase. Rayman Legends has sold half a million units, and those numbers are the norm in the other platforms it's in. And if we can count it, Lego City is going to reach the million soon.

The problem began with the last-gen ports. Some were weaker than the PS360 versions (Batman AC, ACIII, Mass Effect 3...) or were titles not that well known (Deus Ex, Ninja Gaiden III, Darksiders...). And also, the main Nintendo core isn't that interested in shooters, so the CoD games sold below expectations. And if CoD can't sell well on a system, that's an inmediate red alarm for everyone. After that, it was just a big domino effect.

Also, we shouldn't forget about EA's behaviour with the WiiU, practically bullying any potential company from developing for the system because of the Origin servers.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

There are many things to consider:

-Nintendo's fanbase continues to decrease.
-Almost every Nintendo fan I know owns other system.
-Doesn't make any sense to purchase third party content on Wii U

There are more reasons, but I'll stick with those ones.

I personally bought every major Ubisoft title on the console, Watch Dogs aside, I bought the 4 EA games; I actually liked the idea of buying these games on a Nintendo console, but nope, there was a problem: many of these games lacked features or ran like crap. Also, there were bigger communities on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Doesn't really make sense to me buying ACIV Black Flag on Wii U when it lacks DLC, runs at 20FPS, while the 360 version includes that content and runs much, much better.

Or for some reason, people buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games in the end of the day.

In regards of the new IPs thing. I'm open to whatever Nintendo or its studios produce, but I stick with what I know, which are Pikmin, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Star Fox, Kirby, etcetera; however, that doesn't mean I don't want new IPs. I'm sure that many Nintendo fans are open as well.

It's Nintendo's problem, not ours, they don't want to produce new IPs because they don't want and that's it.

TL;DR It doesn't make sense to purchase third party content on Wii U at this point and Nintendo doesn't want to produce new games because they don't want to. It's not our fault.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

How do you know the "core fans" aren't the only ones who are buying the non-Mario etc. games and it's the general public's fault? It's clear that these fans are very small in numbers, and the ones sucking up every Mario game are kids and casual fans.

Really at the end of the day no one's to blame. Consumers buy what they want. If Nintendo's not selling games, they're not making games that the majority wants, and its no one's duty to support a company by buying things they don't want.
