Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kotaku vs. Charts

Well, Kotaku has made an article about upcoming games in Japan until March. It puts PS Vita at the top with 39 and WiiU at the bottom with 2 titles upcoming. Where is a thread on VGC discussing this article.

While it is a great achievement for PS Vita, the numbers seem dubious. Kotaku gives no sources or methodology for this list. So I thought about how to compare this list with the real releases that chart in Media Create, Famitsu or VGC for 2015 up until end of march. While probably not every title will chart, I think we all agree a title failing to chart probably isn't that important to the lineup of the system. I'm just interested into how these claims in the end will turn into reality. I think these claims usually go to much with checking.

I also added the Famitsu release schedule, thanks to badgenome for working through it to get the numbers.

Hehe, nice thread! :)

You could probably avoid the wait by looking at upcoming games on Famitsu or Play Asia and just counting them now.

I have the strong feeling, announced games now may paint an incomplete picture, that's why I prefer looking at the games charting. Also it will be interesting to watch how it all unfolds.

If you feel that looking at the already announced games at these sources, feel free to post them here. It will make looking at the things even more interesting and may help speculation about how Kotaku get to these numbers.

I'll take a stab at it. When you say until March, do you mean just January and February or through the end March?

Thanks. Kotaku wrote: "Number of games scheduled for release in Japan up to the end of March:". I will edit OP to make that timeframe more clear.

So you're only going to look at titles that chart in the top 20? You do know that you can find top 50s and probably even top 100s for Media Create?

Anyway, the fact that you will not count games that doesn't chart in the top 20 because "we can agree that they're pretty much irrelevant" illegitimizes the whole premise of this thread.

Tss. No, I don't know I can find TOP 50 or TOP 100 for MC. Can you tell me where? And is it in english or japanese?

And no, it doesn't illegitimizes the whole premise. If you don't agree with my methodology, then you don't use the results of this thread. That's fine. But still I offer a more relialable base then Kotaku, that isn't even saying how they get to these results. I show my sources and the way I get to the titles. I'm just interested how these lists Kotaku compiled are stacking up against what is charting in the end. I have the feeling that some titles that so far has no firm release date will fall into that window and I have also the feeling Kotaku used different methods to compile the lists for different platforms. Just a feeling though. I doubt any title will fail to chart first week, especially in Japan. If that happens it have to be very obscure.
