Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii U drought 2K15, who is to blame this year?

I think that people will have to accept the fact that the Wii U is a console with a few elites, very high quality games per year and not a console you will buy one (often disappointing) AAA game per month.

There are also some small scales project like Captain Toad, Splatoon and Kirby , the kind of 6/10 or 7/10 games that some people can enjoy if they like the style.

Why do you think Splatoon is a small scale project?  All of the information released so far about the game suggests that it's being treated as a full AAA retail release.  And I think you're giving Captain Toad less credit than it deserves... the game was reviewed very highly.

Captain Toad is a little game which lack content, not more than 6/10 for me.

Splatoon is under developpement but it does not look like a AAA at all. It's a multiplayer enhenced paintball game, but it won't come anywhere close the polish and the excellence of MK8, Smash or Bayonetta 2.

Yeah, if we take all releases on all platforms it looks like a lot of games, but some of those years you listed are pretty crappy for individual platforms, and considering that people probably only like a subset of the games released it'll feel like a drought for everyone. And do remember, the years you cited were  the end of the last generation when all the publishers are trying to wrap up their games and release new ones: releases are going to be higher overall, meaning fewer droughts overall.

Emphasize the bolded.

As for Splatoon, I definitely have to disagree.

The game has a lot of depth and polish from the trailers we've seen.

For Splatoon I may be influenced by the fact that the artstyle makes me want to vomit and I already hate the need to paint everything, but honestly, the game looks very simplistic and the arenas look even simplier.

And if only half of these games appeal to you, you are down to 5 - 6 games for the whole year (not every game appeals to every console owner).

Good enough if the WiiU is your secondary or tertiary system, but a bit sparse if it is your only system.

Not that this is true for everyone, but 5-6 games per year is plenty for many people. This is especially true since a few of those games (Xenoblade X, Zelda U) will be 50-100 hour games. And there are plenty of good multiplayer games to play (MK8, Smash Bros U, and Splatoon.) I personally would take quality over quantity if I had to choose. But I like being able to have options, and I personally do play more than 5-6 games/ year. Anyway, if Nintendo released 5-6 Wii U games per year, and Nintendo fans also have a 3DS with 4-6 releases per year, that would be quite  an amount of games to play, at least one a month.

Watch the analyzed trailer. The game isn't simplistic. The world has depth. The combat has variety and depth. The single-player AND multiplayer have depth and breadth. It might not be the deepest game ever, but it is obvious that there is a lot of variety and thought put into the game. But like you said, it might be your bias from the art-style.

......Really? I do realize that not a lot happens in January, but you cannot possibly be THIS BORED. Considering how a lot of release dates haven't been set yet, I very much doubt we're in for a drought beyond just the typical drought that comes with the seasons. For crying out loud, they're pumping out nearly a game a month on average for 2015 and that's not including things they haven't announced. A monthly release is freaking nuts. But this has nothing to do with LOGIC does it? Because that's not EXCITING, that's not DRAMATIC. This is what I like to call soap opera syndrome; it's where everything is fine and dandy but then someone tries to stir things up for other reason than because stability is boring to them. Hate to break it to ya, but there is not going to be anything dramatic with Nintendo. Wii U sales will be fine, probably even increasing on average, they'll still release a surprisingly diverse library for the year, and people will continue to pout because Nintendo continues to be the least dramatic company in the industry.

Perhaps Nintendo itself

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Same as always, Nintendo, 3rd party publishers and gamers who don't put out coin on certain titles at the right time.

Honestly, the only good thing about this period for the past few years is usually a great RPG released on the 3DS (technically we are getting the updated MH4 released outside of Japan, along with updated ports of Majora's Mask and Devil Survivor 2, not new games but great ones improved nonetheless) and we should get a Nintendo Direct that will hopefully build hype for upcoming Wii U releases.

Still waiting on more info on Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei or at least a NA release date for Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Their is likely to be a Nintendo Direct later this month along with their quarterly fiscal report. Either of these events could give us release dates for upcoming titles.

Currently there are a few titles with tentative first half of 2015 dates like Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Maker and Splatoon, plus the developers of Devil's Third recently said the game is close to being done. I would wait until the end of the month before saying their is a drought.

4 games for the first half of the wiiU's 3rd year is not acceptable.  The system should have more games than you can possibly play not a total number you can easily play.  How many retail wiiU games released in 2014 in America?  Give me a rough

Clearly u don't know what a software drought is, going multiple months without key software. Having 4-5, 1st/2nd party exclusives over a span of  6 months is not a drought

It's the systems 3rd year, people should have their expectations in check by now, we all know Wii U doesn't get 3rd party support meaning only 1st/2nd party exclusives.

Like I said, we need to wait until a Nintendo Direct/quarterly report before we claim a drought is happening.

Having really low expectations doesn't excuse lack of games. What Wii U games release in the next 3 months?
