Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does Kirby and the Rainbow Curse even have a chance of selling well?

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is a follow up to the game "Kirby: Canvas Curse" released in 2005 for the DS.

The sales of the game are pretty low. According to VGC it sold 0.72M WW.

The Wii U game is releasing on a much smaller install base than the DS.

Does the game even have a chance of selling well? It doesn't to be a game with a high development cost, but I doubt that it can even pass the 0.5M mark.

Thoughts?

It looks fun and I am going to get it for my GF's kids so I will play it but it definitely seems like a game more suited for the 3DS. It might sell better in Japan.

It's going to tank very hard. Just wait and see.

The game is launching in the wrong place and in the wrong time.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Depends on the pricing and marketing

Still waiting for a 3D open world Kirby title...

So it's done already?

Yeah, I don't see this going very well...

Canvas course is a somewhat obscure title. I didn't know that game even exists before I've watched some E3 2014 react videos on Youtube. So if this Game gets a bit more marketing it's entirely possible to beat canvas course's sales.

Hard to say. It's coming at $40 which will help. It will have legs. I think an eventual price drop/retailer clearance could help it get up into the 500k-1M range.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

In my opinion, it won't. The most it can sell would probably be around 300,000 copies in 1 year. If you look at other Wii U games like Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101, they only sold 590,000 and 300,000 respectively. But there's also a chance this Kirby title will sell well and better than other Wii U games. Kirby Triple Deluxe (3DS) sold 1.3 million after all. It seems like many people right now are into Kirby games than before.

YWould you buy a Wii U for that?
