maybe you will be pleased with a metroid on 3ds and we (prime fanboys) with the console version. win win.

No. I want a console game. I want a 2D Metroid on the 3DS. And I'm still a Prime fan. I just don't want anymore of them. Just like Super Mario Galaxy is my absolute favorite Mario game, but I'll barf if they make another one. People just need to let a good thing go so something new, better, and different can come along.

Then it could be first person like prime, but with other type of environment, feeling, ambient. I'm fine with that. imo it should be first person, the ui design of metroid is perfect for fp gameplay.

I know some people don't like Other M but at least they tried to give it a legit story instead of "Go here and shoot this". I don't care who makes it. Just give me an engaging story.

Other M's story was essentially "Go here and shoot this" but with a bunch of flat character monologue in between. Fusion did what Other M attempted much better. The Prime games felt more immersive and the back story and characters didn't need to have minute monologues to express their actually rounded personalities.

I don't dislike Other M, because I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay, but the story is not its best feature, and to say other Metroid games don't have stories is a sign of ignorance.

I never said they didn't have stories. I implied that they didn't have "engaging" stories.

Neither did Other M.

I think Metroid looses out by being in first person. There's no reason Metroid's UI couldn't work for 3rd person, since it obviously works perfectly in all the not FP Metroid games. Metroid is a platformer and Prime's platforming is child's play compared that of 2D Metroids and any Mario game. Seeing as Metroid is supposed to be as much a platormer as Mario, the move to FP completely neuters that. That's obvious by how many platforming mechanics switch you to 3rd person in the Prime games, and how many more are completely cut out from any of the games.

FP makes as much sense in Metroid as it does in Mario. The only reason Metroid is FP and Mario isn't is because Samus kind of has a gun.

Super Metroid is one of the worst selling metroid games. And platforming in Other M was clunkier than in Prime.
Third person ruins the immersion way too much.

I honestly think yo are comparing apples and oranges.

Ones is a 2D side scroller and the other is a 3D open world that you can explore.

I do not think you will be able to get hte same atmosphere unless you made it a side scroller. No one I know wants that. Nostalga is what makes you want it but there is a whole generation of kids who followed you that will go WTF is this shit? Halo it is.

Dont try to fix somthing that works my father told

Retro does an amazing job with the Metroid series

you seem to really be reading into the eeiry vibe of Super Metroid, but do recall that first and foremost Samus is a bounty hunter. not all of her adventures are going to be insanely creepy in the sense that you desire

also part of the reason Super Metroid has that certain dark vibe is because it has to- the SNES was only capable of so much, a lot of what I think you are connecting to with is the music and isolated feeling (like you say, like Alien)

I think Metroid Prime got it exactly right. its creepy but still pretty at times and intriguing. great controls, great weapons, great mysterious space vibe

I think others have mentioned already, but I agree with some that part of the vibe you really enjoyed was BECAUSE it was a 2D sidescroller. it is very difficult to create a similar atmosphere in 3D

oh yeah for sure, a 3D metroid would just feel absolutely bizarre in third person perspective. you're not watching Samus on her journey, you ARE the bounty hunter

yes, especially with all of Samus's weapons and accessories. would be terribly awkward fighting with them in a 3rd person perspective unless there was lock on or something which would be lame

I personally prefer Prime, then comes Mother M and then the 2D Metroid titles.

Within Prime my feels is that 3 > 1 > 2. But of course each of them has memorable momtents...

Problems is that Prime sales got down with each game to a poit (Trilogy) where I felt ashamed being a gamer.

Other M wasn't a success too.

No wonder Nintendo didn't put Retro onto the next Prime but instead on DKC. Regardless of Retros whishes. Metroid was something between "done" and "dead" on the Wii...

... and it needs a wonder to get another Metroid. Even more in 3D showing what the Wii U is capable of.

Maybe Retro find a "trick" to cut production costs.

As we get a competitive shooting game with Splatoon that genre is also covered already.

It would be fine to get a FP exploration action game using WiiMote/Nunchuck as there is none yet. But chances are really small...
