Or the controls are kinda clunky and not so accessible for "casual" gamers. Imagine a dark souls character with the movements of Legend of Zelda or Darksiders. I love DS and this is my opinion, the game is not difficult, the difficulty is about mastering the controls.

Dark Souls isn't difficult if you comprehend its philosophy. It's not about the controls (though mastering them do help a lot). It's not about slaying big monsters. It's about conquering the player's patience.

It's difficult. But not in a way that's badly designed. The game simply punishes you for making stupid mistakes that we've been conditioned to think are okay in video games. It's actually quite brilliant in that way.

the controls were fine, (although i always felt DeS was a bit faster and responsive, and i think that was a design choice), and NO the game is not really difficult it just punish players who want to go all rambo on everything, and dont think before acting, this applies to everything, from fighting enemies, bosses to even navigating some areas.

I found Demon Souls to be harder. Dark Souls was easier and Dark Souls 2 was just a walk in the park as far as difficult goes

Demon Souls - Hard
Dark Souls - Normal
Dark Souls 2 - Easy

I think those two are there to teach a lesson. It doesn't matter how unstoppable your character is. There's always someone(s) stronger than you. :)

Dark Souls isn't hard. Everybody else just sucks at it. That's not to say that it's easy, but it's a game that forces you to play well. 90% of modern games don't do that, even on their hardest difficulty.

The button mapping is terrible though. Don't understand why there's no option to change it.
