Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is zelda U destined to be the worst selling main home console game in LOZ history?

Zelda wii u sales vs majora's mask sales

zelda u > 3.36m 171 70.95%

3.36m > zelda u 68 28.22%

Total:239

If it actually launches late 2015 I think it could push 3.5 million to 4 million. If it's later than that I can see it being less than 3.5 million.

I think so, and I hope so.

They need to get rid of Eiji. He is ruining Zelda with his little crazy ides and art styles.

If this Zelda had the art style of the 2012 tech demo (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_fyOkrteqM) then I think it could've been a smash hit.

Right now I think it will sell around 2 million, but with a more OOT/TP art style could've sold around 3.5 million.

Yeah some of you want the same aesthetics all over again (uncharted 1-2-3-4) But I think Nintendo fans are very glad with the changes on that on every Zelda, Wind Waker was amazing and now everyone says it, some of you want all Zelda to be the same as Ocarina, and then haters can say "Nintendo does always the same" ...but well, they say it anyway.

Would be pretty cool if you share us that list!! I would be really pleased with you if you share it!!

lolno.. It will surely outsell Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword and even Wind Waker! For the record, that 4.5 million figure for the WW is not accurate.

Well vgchartz had WW at 4.55m and that information posted on neogaf the other day had it at 4.43m and that was apparently nintendo's own data.

Weird.. Every site I found says that the WW sold 3.07 million..

I'm certain that 3.07m figure was during 2003 after only a few months on sale, it continued to sell well throughout gamecubes lifetime. Nintendo's million seller list had it at 4.43m on gamecube so i think vgchartz tracked it pretty well.

It will certainly not be the worst selling Zelda. That is definitely something I know for a fact. If Smash Bros has an attach rate of 1/4 on the Wii U and has already sold over 2m in a little over a month, Zelda will definitely sell at least 3m in over a month. Then you have legs to consider. It will probably sell over 6m.

Smash Bros is significantly bigger then Zelda, whatever smash sells, cut it almost in half and then you probably have Zelda Wii U's LT.

Brawl: 12.5m >>> Twilight Princess: 7m

Melee 7m >>> WindWaker: 4.6

Sales to not mean popularity. Sure, it is a significant factor, however, TP sold 7m on the Wii. Not including Gamecube. My point is that more people KNOW about Zelda than Smash. Plus, there is the fact this game is severly hyped. A lot of people waited on getting a Wii U till Smash, and a lot more are waiting on Zelda. Those people who are waiting on Zelda, plus those people who already have the console? Smash might sell more, but that doesn't mean Zelda won't sell more during launch. I believe it'll sell better than Smash at launch but not have as good legs as Smash.

The graphics don't fit Zelda. It's kind of like making Metroid all weird looking like that. It doesn't work. Even Nintendo themselves admitted the best art style is the more "realistic" version. Play Smash Bros Melee, go to Events, and one of them is fighting against Nintendo's "realistic" (they use that word too) characters, and Link is among them.

The fact is, when Zelda has the OOT/TP style it sells best. Twilight Princess was (and is) the most hyped Zelda ever, and one of the main reasons for that is the art style (if not THE reason).

Right now Nintendo needs all the sales and hype it can get, so it just boggles my mind they are going for the weird art style again.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't. It has everything going against it. I will say this, it will 100% be the worst selling first entry.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

This is simply GORGEOUS, that´s why Nintendo want it.

Comparing Wii to WiiU sales of the major nintendo titles already out we can see that the Wii games are selling at well over twice the rate of the Wii U games. The only exception is Smash because the Wii version only launched in Japan initially. As we can see by the massive jump on the Wii version's graph, once it launches in Europe and America, Smash will also be selling at well over double the rate on the Wii as well.

Mario Kart
Smash
Donkey Kong
New Super Mario Bros
3D Mario

Assuming Zelda managed to hold on a little better and only drops to half the sales of twilight princess that means it will sell 3.5million. Assuming it sells half of total wii/gamecube twilight princess sales it will sell 4.3million. Assuming its drop is just straight up the same as the other major Wii U titles it could sell less than 3million.

Zelda Skyward sword only sold 3.8 million sales according to vgchartz. The wii sold OVER 100 Million units while the wii U is at less than 9 million.... Zelda U will sell no more than 2 million life time you morons.
