Jesus christ out of all the other Marvel characters they pick ant man? are they just throwing darts at abunch of pictures of Marvel characters and making movies with whatever one they land on? They even acknowledged in the movie how stupid the name is.

Yeah.  Next thing you know they'll be making movies about even more obscure characters like Rocket Racoon.

Ant Man is cool. He's like one of the very first Avengers (with Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, and Wasp (his wife). He's an asshole wife beater that can shrink and later grow super sized. Not a Marvel flagship character but after GotG, I learned to never count Marvel out.

actually acording to the comics, Ant man is the one who accidentally creates Ultron, you know the bad guy in the new avengers movie, so maybe they will tie this movies together.

You'd think so right?  They've actually changed things so that Tony Stark creates Ultron, I believe to make Stark more relevant. Considering he's "the star" of the movies(and rumors say RDJ wanted the change to stay on board), it makes more sense.  How Ant Man stays relevant outside of Ultron's creation is lost on me but I guess we'll see what they do.

yeah i gotta admit i suspected that it was somehow Tony Stark who created Ultron in the movies, since its Iron Mans suit the one that starts moving and (i guess?) becoming Ultron, anyway as you said that just makes it more weird as to how Antman will be relevant in the movies

ioi didn't take away video posting, the format just changed.

Yea, this looks like it could be Marvel's lowest grossing movie ever. At least this is the first Marvel trailer that looked completely boring to me. Even though GotG's characters are pretty obscure to the mainstream, the trailers actually looked good, which brought people in. Then, the good word of mouth just made the movie explode in sales. This just looks...awful and by the numbers.

Ant man is one of the least interesting comic book characters in the marvel universe. Characters like Venom would of been better and he's more well known. Could do a saga of him fighting Carnage and some other villains but not have spider man in any of it.

I think Carnage is getting his own movie but that character is tied to Spider-man and Marvel Studios does not have the rights to the property at the moment when it comes to movies.  Same reason we aren't seeing the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here is a quick reference of who currently has the rights to what:

Ah, that explains it. Ugh. That's so annoying.

The trailer has me interested. I'd quite like a less actiony and more dramatic movie. I'm glad that they have Hank Pym passing the mantle to Scott Lang. But it's disappointing that they didn't start with Hank Pym. I guess they needed to do this to tie into the fact that it seems in the movie-verse Hank Pym is not the creator of Ultron. Unless I'm mistaken Ultron is an Ironman suit gone rogue. At least that's how the trailers seem to be showing it.

This Antman (Scott Lang) doesn't do squat in the Ultron department. It's Hank Pym who makes Ultron, and in the movie he's being played by the decrtepit Michael Douglas. So the actual Antman origin story is being glossed over. Also It's Hank Pym who is the arsehole wife beater, so that back story is likely to be swept under the carpet. The potential to have a morally complicated character has been diminished somewhat because of these decisions. Scott Lang is likely to be portrayed as a loveable rogue with a good heart. Which will make him rather more shallow, and obviously less interesting as a person compared to Pym. But perhaps Michael Douglas's Pym will feature fairly prominantly and provide a bit more character depth.

I do think it would be tricky putting in a 3rd science braniac in the Avengers with Stark and Banner already playing the roles of scientific geniuses. What I am geting a bit tired of is the all male origin story thing. All the female Avengers seem to get introduced in the Avengers movies. Why not have The Wasp origin Story. She was a founding member of the Avengers (too late for the movies) and has been a leader of the Avengers. She even came up with the name "Avengers". As it stands the 1st tier Avengers is a total sausage fest, which is rather tiresome. And look what's coming down the line with Marvel movies:

We're not going to see a female lead movie until Captain Marvel in 2018. That's too long a wait IMO. She's potentialy the most powerful of all the Avengers, if they give her her cosmic powers, and I reckon a 2016 intro, rather than Dr Strange, would have been a better placement for her.

Yeah I think most of their deals are structured that if they don't make a movie out of a property for so long then Marvel Studios get the rights back.  One of the reasons they are re-booting Fantastic Four (despite how poorly the last two movies did) and constantly churning out movies for Spiderman. If they don't those rights go back to Marvel.

I was really disappointed they rushed into the Avengers movies without him. Also much more excited for this, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange movies than a new Iron Man or Thor movie. Ant Man deserves a movie way before the damn Hulk gets another.

Hulk isn't getting another! And Iron Man isn't getting another either!

Marvel is doing a surprisingly good job at branching out. I know Capn and Thor are getting 3rd films, but that's somewhat only fair/sensible given their success

RDJ hinted at doing another Iron Man on Ellen and I know Hulk isn't getting another movie. That was towards the people who want another one.
