Would you count the New Super Mario Bros. games part of the main Super Mario series? If they do, would we also count the Super Mario Land and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as well? How about New Super Luigi U?

Here's the main series accoriding to the Mario Wiki.

Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (JP)

Super Mario Bros. 2 (US)

Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario World

Super Mario 64

Super Mario Sunshine

New Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Galaxy

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario 3D Land

New Super Mario Bros. 2

New Super Mario Bros. U

Super Mario 3D World

If the 3D games and US SMB2 count as part of the main series then the New and Land subseries absolutely count.

I count every New game, they are new entries in the Super Mario Bros. series (duh).

Super Mario Land it's main, if New 2 is, why not this one?

Super Mario World 2 is a Yoshi's Island game. (Super duh)

New Super Luigi U is a DLC.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Yea, I say they do!

Well they all feature "Super" Mario so I would assume it would be apart of the Super Mario series. That being said I honestly wouldn't count SMW2: Yoshi's Island or NSLU because they both feature different protagonists and also NSLU is really just dlc for NSMBU.

They're called "New Super Mario Bros" which means they have been designed to be a mere throwback to the originals. An expanded remaster if you will. That's also why the New 3DS isn't considered 9th gen.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yes, why they wouldn't be part of the main series?

I think so, as I love those games.

Yep... They bought a new spin to things and made 2d Mario relevant again...

Yeah I'd say they are, and the GameBoy's Super Mario Land series as well, until it turns into Warioland. Like Yoshi's Island, I'd those don't count anymore.
