Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft's act of extreme desperation actually worked! Will it continue now?

Oh boy, here we go again.

Let me just say that Microsoft's "extreme act of desperation" was about as unextreme as you can get since releasing an SKU for the X1 w/o Kinect for $399 was something they should have done DAY 1 instead of forcing the Kinect 2.0 on gamers at a $100 premium. The extra $50 off / holiday bundles are also nothing new, both M$ and Sony have been doing bundles like that for years now going back to the early days of the PS360.

Also, lets not forget that it wasn't just M$'s aggressive pricing and advertising that gave them the momentum they had going into the holiday season... what exactly did Sony have software wise for the PS4 after Destiny and the white bundle was released? Aside from another repackaged update to a last gen game (GTAV) and the usual annual multiplatform suspects like COD and AC, they had what? Driveclub? LBP3? Not exactly the greatest lineup for the holiday season. The PS4 pretty much blew its load back in September with Destiny, and the luke warm reception its gotten since its release hasn't helped much.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Globally, I think the ps4 will win but in the US, I think the x1 might take it

And I think the reason why Sony didn't match the price is cause they looked at which would be more profitable for them, lowering the price to get some more consumers or staying at the same price and getting less consumers but more guaranteed profit and they chose the second option imo. Sony doesn't really care about the whole console war and instead, they care about what will get them the most amount of profits and clearly, they chose that!

Microsoft's tactic is odd but they can afford to do whacky tactics cause they can burn a shit ton of money. Sony, on the other hand, needs to think about money specially considering that they lost $1+ billion USD not too long ago

I hope not. I see your point about profit, but larger install base could make up that profit loss. Sony did say that install base was their priority over profit, but they did not display this as said.

MS walked all over them in sales you say? Globally, they are still ahead and unlike MS, they made money. This isn't a game, it's a business, and as a business the PlayStation division outperformed the Xbox Division by a country mile.

Yes, but in America, Sony lost ground.

Thread about NA... within the first five responses you always hear "they win globally".

What makes it so hard to understand VGC?

Anyway, I think Xbox One will win NA, because they have the best exclusives for NA (mainly Halo and Gears), they will actually advertise the console there, there is almost no marketing in continental Europe, they have the money to always cut the price further than Sony.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Why some people want a single system to dominate is beyond me...

I have more than one reason. I want MS out of the game business, but on the other hand, if one console dominates a generation--like PS2--then you really only need one console to get most exclusives.

I'm sorry that you're mad and disgusted.... over console sales.....

Now I'm a sad panda.

Again? Someone else must have said similar. Anyway, you make a good point about Sony not having as many exclusives lately. That will change soon though.

They could continue to cut the price of Xbox One, but they would make little profit.

Worldwide, PS4 will dominate, but I'm tired of living in Xbox country. Will Xbox retake America? What do you guys think?

You want a Japanese console to take control of America from an American console?

Commie.

I am back. I left because of constantly being banned or having my blogs blocked. I hope this one is tame enough.

Actually, hoping for another console to sell bad is a bannable offense unless you have a bet running that is.

X1 could actually take US but it will not by a margin. Being on equal footing with MS is a big win for Sony. They're selling great there and matching X1's price would've been a very bad decision. What Sony needs more than diomination in every single market is money. They are able to make tons of money by not caving into arbitrary rivalries. They lead WW and I guess that is why they're currently pretty happy.
